Dari Hati: 10 things you didn’t know about MelRomeo

Nov 16, 2020 Bryan "soupykambing" Terng

Have you ever wondered what your favourite Facebook Creator’s strange habits or top local dishes are? In this series of interviews, we sat down with the stars of Dari Hati, an eGGs-clusive special documentary programme, to ask them a few lighthearted questions that were too amusing for the show!

Looks like MelRomeo found his winning formula and stuck to it, with his content largely unchanged since we last chatted with the Facebook Gaming Creator. The Malaysian streamer’s main game may be PUBG Lite on PC, but he occasionally dabbles in Apex Legends and Call of Duty: Warzone when he wants a change of scenery – more recently, he’s also been broadcasting his adventures in the world of Teyvat with Genshin Impact, a detour from his usual shootouts. Even though MelRomeo prioritises bonding with his viewers during streams, that doesn’t take away the fact that he is one mean gunner/survivalist, winning a regional community tournament for Warzone recently alongside the likes of fellow streamer, SiuPakChoi.

If you could compare yourself with any animal, which would it be and why?

I would say cats, because they just do what they like, just like me. I can’t be forced into doing something I don’t want to do.

What are three things you can’t live without?

Internet, food (I can’t work if I’m hungry) and my PC.

What are your top 3 local foods?

  • Chicken rice (Nasi ayam)
  • Nasi lemak
  • Chicken tom yam (I’m actually allergic to seafood)

What odd beliefs or superstitions do you have?

I believe that you get what you give. If you give a lot, then you’ll receive a lot too, not just money but also health. What’s mine is yours.

What was the first video game you ever played? How were you introduced to it? How did you feel about the game?

Diablo 2, which I used to play with my brother in cyber cafes against local players on LAN (local area network). I had fun with it because I got to play with my brother. Half-Life and Starcraft are some of my earliest favourites too.

What hobbies do you like doing that relaxes or destress you?

I enjoy exploring and learning new things, so I watch YouTube a lot to gain knowledge. Even though my background is electronic engineering, I learnt how to blog, how to improve my streaming by watching Alpha Gaming, and so on.

What’s one interesting fact about yourself that no one else knows about you?

I actually have leadership traits, so when I’m in charge of any project, I always take the reins and lead it.

Which country do you dream of living in, and why?

Japan, which I travelled to twice. I like the culture and atmosphere, the people are very disciplined too; they keep their trash in a bag when they’re outside, they always stand on the left side of the escalator, I learned a lot from them in terms of manners.

If you could master a new language, what would it be and why?

French, because their accent sounds romantic.

What are your worst habits?

I tend to procrastinate, which I do a little too much. I need someone to set a deadline and motivate me to do my tasks, even if I don’t like doing it.

Dari Hati is a documentary series by eGG Network that dives deep into the lives of Malaysia’s top Facebook Gaming Creators, featuring an intimate dialogue and rarely-heard-of stories by the streamers themselves.
