Dota 2 fans today woke up to some surprising news out of nowhere – Valve and Netflix announcing the launch of the upcoming animated TV series, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood. Based on the popular multiplayer game with the largest prize pool for any single esports tournament, the 8-episode series will revolve around Davion, “a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world. Following encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm as well as the noble Princess Mirana on a secret mission of her own, Davion becomes embroiled in events much larger than he could have ever imagined.”
Ashley Edward Miller, known for his writing on X-Men: First Class, Thor, and Andromeda will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the anime series. With Ki Hun Ryu as co-executive producer and the animation by Studio MIR (The Legend of Korra and Voltron: Legendary Defender), we know that it will be in good hands.
Not much has been shown in the announcement video, but based on the visuals released (see above), we can expect Invoker to make an appearance on the show as well. Check it out below:
Could this show be the first of many things that Valve has in store to draw new players into the highly-competitive strategy game? Only time will tell. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will premier on Netflix on 25 March.
