E1 Championship Pit Stop Recap: Ready up for Round 5

Posted by Bryan Terng on December 16, 2020

Three rounds left before we enter the grand finale next! The premier simulated (sim) racing tournament of the E1 Championship will be continuing its run tomorrow night with Round 5, and the top 2 Mikko Nassi and Naquib Azlan seem to be in a league of their own so far.

Here's a quick rundown of what happened in Round 4:

Race 1

Team Safehouse's Mikko Nassi was hitting aces in Italy, bagging both P1 and the fastest lap time in the first race of the day. P2 Naquib Azlan (Stratos Motorsports) had a good run too, leading the pack in the first half without any issues before Nassi overtook him. Scuderia Stratos' Troy Eimann also performed notably well at first by having P2 in the first few laps, but it went downhill after Nassi surpassed him, with Mika Hakimi eventually taking the P3 spot.

Race 2

Viewers did Nassi (read as "not see" - terrible pun, moving on) it coming, as Team Safehouse's apex driver won his fourth race in a row since Round 3, where he also won both races. In an unexpected turn of events, his close competitor, Azlan, settled for P3 this time; instead, BlackWolf Racing's Kalen Chin secured second place after an outstanding performance, winning his first-ever podium spot. Special mentions to Ariff Azmi (Scuderia Stratos) for a great start too, holding up well against other seasoned drivers for a period of time before falling to sixth.

Overall E1 Championship standings

After swinging back and forth in the leaderboard, Nassi seems to have found his stride and stuck to it to great effect, dominating the overall championship standings with 174 points. However, his archenemy, Azlan, is still within breath distance of him at 171 points, so he can't afford to make a single mistake if he wants to hold onto his throne. The pair are at least 45 points ahead of everyone else unless the others - especially the RSG pair of Mika Hakimi and Ayman Aqeem, who are leading team-wise in the overall standings - manage to find their weakness and exploit them.
