E1 Championship Pit Stop Recap: Return with Round 6

Posted by Bryan Terng on January 6, 2021

Happy 2021, everyone! It's finally back to school and work for everyone, but it also marks the return of the sim racing tournament of the E1 Championship, where Asia-Pacific's top racers have been battling for the title as the region's best virtual driver and a winning slice of the US$15,000 prize pool.

Here's a refresher of Round 5 to get you ready for the next race:

Race 1

Top 2 racer, Naquib Azlan of Stratos Motorsports hit his stride three weeks ago, with Stratos Scuderia's Troy Eimann right behind him to take the top spots. Then-league leader, Mikko Nassi, initially surpassed the two halfway, but he ended up dropping out of the race due to issues with the game. Thus, the green racers lead the pack, and even GT Radial Eurasia's Inigo Anton got a P3 spot. RSG's Ayman Aqeem got the fastest lap time this round too.

Race 2

Stratos drivers once again painted the circuit green, with Azlan returning to the top, but this time, followed by his partner Yevan David, who reached the P2 for the first time ever. Even so, it was a tough battle uphill, as RSG's Mika Hakimi and Ayman Aqeem contested with the duo furiously before getting P3 and P4 seats. Mikko Nassi may not have placed highly, but he still got a commendation for scoring the fastest lap time.

Overall E1 Championship standings

After Nassi's continuous domination up until Round 4, his direct competitor, Azlan, swept him off his feet in the latest Round 5 and shot to the top of the overall championship standings at 225 points, 37 more than Nassi. On top of that, the combination of Nassi and David's points also drove them to finally surpass RSG in the teams championship standings, albeit with a 15-point lead. Still, with three more rounds in the series, nothing is certain until the E1 Championship is over.
