Riot Announces Valorant Game Changers Programs to Promote Females in the Scene

While the issue of sexism in gaming has been prevalent for the longest time, things are getting better as gamers around the world are slowly accepting that the activity is for everybody - not just males. Organizations have been trying to accelerate the process with events and tournaments for marginalized genders, to encourage them to compete. Trying to address the issue for its game, Valorant, Riot Games today announced the Valorant Champions Tour Game Changers program which consists of two initiatives - the VCT Game Changers Series and VCT Game Changers Academy.

The Game Changers Series will be a set of top tier competitions that will take place around the world in 2021 and will feature prize pools similar to last year's Ignition Series tournaments (nothing to scoff at!). While the Game Changers Academy program will be a set of smaller monthly tournaments, giving players more opportunities to compete at the semi-pro and grassroots level. These events will be organized with the help of Galorants, one of the largest female communities within Valorant.

“Game Changers will provide tournaments and development programs for women who want to take their game beyond competitive ladder play,” said Whalen Rozelle, the Sr. Director of Esports at Riot Games. “With VALORANT esports, we're committed to fostering an inclusive environment for competition and creating safe opportunities for women to compete without fear of identity or gender-based harassment.”

No word on the Game Changers programs on this side of the world yet, but there already are women-friendly leagues such as the FSL which have been around for some time now. Stay tuned to eGG Network for more news and updates on Valorant!
