LoL 2020 World Championship Starts 25/9 in Shanghai

While most of the esports world has yet to return to offline events, no thanks to COVID-19, it seems like Riot Games is willing to make the first step. The company announced over the weekend that the 2020 World Championship for League of Legends will be held in Shanghai, China this September.

Announcement from Riot Games

The LoL World Championship 2020 will kick off on 25th September, culminating in the grand finals on 31st October. The tournament taking place in a single city will make it easier for the organizers to control the show environment and ensure the health and safety of the players and fans. Early stages of the tournament will only be broadcast online, but the finals, which will be held in the brand new Pudong Soccer Stadium, will be open to in-person attendees (assuming it is allowed by then).

But for those of you who can't make it to China or don't want to travel in these times, Riot Games promises a "unique visceral live sporting experience" digitally, so fret not!

Worlds will remain in China for 2021 but will make its return to North America in 2022.

Does this announcement mark the return of offline events for other games? Only time will tell! Stay tuned to eGG Network for all the latest news and updates on esports.
