MPL Indonesia Playoffs: Rex Regum Qeon one series away from the Grand Finals

RRQ dismantled Season 3 champions ONIC Esports 2-0 to book their spot in the next round.

After dispatching Alter Ego 2-1, ONIC Esports booked a daunting MPL-ID Season 5 Playoffs Upper Bracket match against Regular Season league leaders RRQ.Hoshi, who also claimed second place during MPL-ID Season 4 and during the M1 World Championship last year.

In Game 1, ONIC Esports opted for a durable line-up supported by Estes, one of the best healers of the game. Having witnessed EVOS Legends’ effective use of Rafaela in their first game against Genflix Aerowolf, the Season 3 champions tried to emulate a similar draft.

Unfortunately, RRQ proved to be in a league of their own, drafting their own signature heroes like Faramis and Selena, to devastating effect. In probably the most one-sided game of the day, RRQ established a 13,000 gold lead just after the 10-minute mark. They didn’t take their foot off the gas and ended the match with a 15-3 kill-death score.

Xin was the MVP of Game 1 with a flawless Granger performance.

ONIC Esports had a better Game 2 as they refused to go down without a fight. They were neck-and-neck with RRQ.Hoshi, but a series of bad teamfights in the mid game meant that they gradually ceded ground to RRQ. ONIC’s choice to stick with a thus-far unsuccessful Uranus is troubling and the team should evaluate the strength of the hero. Only EVOS Legends has secure wins with the popular off lane hero.

Fans witnessed another unconventional pick from RRQ with Lemon’s Minsitthar, proving the player (and his team’s) versatility. Tomorrow, they face the winners of Bigetron Alpha vs EVOS Legends. With the benefit of more rest and the opportunity to observe their closest rivals, RRQ should be confident about their chances to reclaim the title they won back in Season 2.

The MPL-ID Season 5 Playoffs bracket after Day 1’s matches.

In tomorrow’s (11 April) matches, EVOS Legends first take on Bigetron Alpha. The loser of that series will face ONIC Esports in an elimination match. The winner of EVOS vs BTR will face a rampant RRQ for the first Grand Final spot.
