After eight long weeks of Regular Season and an intense 3-day Playoffs with an exhausting best-of-7 grand final, we now have our Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia Season 7 champion!
Congratulations to RSG for winning their second MPL title! While the squad isn’t the same (season 5 was RSG SG), they carry the same banner with pride. Kudos to Rush and co: the veterans on the team for not giving up after all these years – they finally get their time in the champion’s spotlight.
Here’s how the Grand Finals went down:
RSG MY drafted a stronger late-game lineup, while Todak drafted a burst-heavy team that was better in the early game. Todak had an explosive start that snowballed them into the mid-game, securing pick off after pick off without any punishment from RSG MY. RSG MY managed to stem the bleeding for a bit but lost the Lord to Todak just before 15 minutes. With the Lord, Todak methodically marched into their opponents’ base to end the game.
Todak kept up the same strategy of banning Lolealz’s Alice and picking up Claude for themselves. Both teams traded blows in the early game with Todak getting away with kills while RSG secured the early Turtles. When it came to the midgame, Todak out-maneuvered RSG MY by constantly forcing them into disadvantageous fights. This gave Ciku enough space to secure a solo Lord, and with their massive gold lead, Todak easily invaded and destroyed RSG MY’s base. RSG MY’s cores just never came online in time to defend against the assault.
Game 2’s defeat seems to have woken up RSG MY, they played like a rejuvenated team taking control of the game right from the beginning thanks to Lolealz’s Harith. In the midgame, Todak had no answers to Leixia’s Lancelot who secured countess kills for his team, only managing to shut him down for the first time at 13 minutes when they had already lost 2 inhibitors. A couple more team fights and a secured Lord was enough for RSG MY to grab their first win of this series.
Another explosive start to kick things off, with RSG MY getting the early lead off Leixia’s Lancelot and Lolealz’s disruptive play on Esmerelda. Todak seemed lost and unable to strike back, losing fight after fight with no signs of life. In the late game, Todak’s cores never managed to turn the tides and RSG MY proceeded to clinically finish out the game. Both teams are now tied at 2-2.
Todak looked good in the early game, but RSG MY managed to remain calm and composed and slowly pulled the game back in their favour. Despite Todak securing the first Lord, it wasn’t enough to make a successful push into RSG MY’s base. RSG MY’s first Lord did a lot more work, giving them the resources they needed to decimate Todak’s towers. Shortly after that, they pulled the match in their favour, 3-2. RSG MY are one game away from winning the title.
Todak maintained the same Alice ban again like they’ve done all day, but RSG MY pulled out a surprise Zhask pick for Lolealz. The game started off on even footing again though exhaustion seemed to be setting in for the defending champions, Todak. Sloppy executions and poor decisions gave away plenty of kills and gold to RSG MY who secured the first inhibitor of the game. Todak couldn’t put up much of a fight after that and conceded the game a couple of team fights later. RSG MY take the series 4-2.
Speaking at the post-game interview, the members of RSG MY had some interesting things to say.
Lolealz (after winning the Grand Finals MVP award) on his favourite burger since he won a year’s supply: Either the McChicken or Sumo burger for me!
Rush on which team was the most difficult to play against: Todak was the hardest to play against because of their unpredictability when it came to drafts, and 4Meyz was the most troublesome player.
Rush on Todak banning Alice against them every game: We expected the Alice bans every game and had many back up picks prepared.
Logan on winning the MPL Championship after so long, and any message to their doubters: They are extremely happy with the victory, and joked that when he and Rush didn’t play they finally managed to win. No words to their doubters.
Rush on teams they are looking forward to face at MSC: We look forward to facing EVOS ID. We want to beat them because they’ve been a powerhouse for so long.
Team Manager on the biggest challenges: They had issues bringing Lolealz and Izanami into West Malaysia for this season of MPL (they’re originally from Sabah) due to the pandemic and they thought they wouldn’t be able to play together in the teamhouse.
Well played to both teams for going all the way to the MPL-MY S7 grand finals, but there could only be one victor. Look forward to catching RSG MY at the MLBB Southeast Asia Cup (MSC)!
