Honkai: Star Rail Character Senarai Tier
Choosing right characters to invest in is one of most important decisions you will make in Honkai: Star Rail. With a growing roster spanning seven Paths and multiple elemental types, understanding which characters deliver strongest returns on your upgrade materials — and your Stellar Jade — can make difference between breezing through Memory of Chaos and hitting a wall at Floor 10.
This Senarai Tier reflects state of game as of Version 2.6 and accounts for performance across all major content types: Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, Simulated Universe, and general story content. Rankings consider a character's Keseluruhan versatility, team flexibility, and ceiling performance when properly built.
Methodology
Our rankings are based on extensive testing across multiple endgame cycles, community theorycrafting data, and feedback from our Ulasan panel. We evaluate characters at Eidolon 0 ( base copy with no duplicates) to keep list relevant for free-to-play and low-spending players. Light Cone assumptions use Terbaik four-star options unless a character's signature five-star Light Cone fundamentally changes their viability. We update this list with every major patch to reflect balance changes, new character synergies, and meta shifts.
S-Tier — Meta-Defining
These characters warp meta around them. They either perform their role better than anyone else or enable strategies that no other character can replicate.
Firefly (Destruction / Fire) is current benchmark for break-focused DPS. Her Super Break playstyle, combined with her ability to implant weakness on enemies, makes her effective against virtually any enemy lineup. Paired with Ruan Mei and a sustainer, she trivializes most content.
Acheron (Nihility / Lightning) redefined what a Nihility DPS could look like. Her ultimate scales based on debuff stacks applied by team rather than traditional energy, creating an entirely new team-building paradigm. In teams with Pela, Kafka, or other debuff-heavy allies, Acheron's damage output is staggering.
Robin (Harmony / Physical) elevated support role to new heights. Her Concerto ultimate buffs entire team's damage and allows allies to launch follow-up attacks with her bonus, effectively granting extra turns of damage. She slots into virtually any team and makes everyone around her stronger.
Aventurine (Preservation / Imaginary) is most versatile sustainer in game. His shield mechanics, built-in crowd control resistance, and surprisingly Kuat personal damage make him a one-character defensive solution. His follow-up attack generation also synergizes beautifully with characters like Dr. Ratio and Topaz.
A-Tier — Excellent Picks
These characters are powerful, reliable, and capable of clearing all content. They may lack universal dominance of S-Tier picks, but they remain Teratas choices for their roles.
Seele (Hunt / Quantum) was game's first dominant DPS and remains lethal. Her extra-turn mechanic on kills makes her a monster in Pure Fiction and against multi-wave encounters. She requires more specific team support than newer DPS options, but her ceiling is still extraordinary.
Kafka (Nihility / Lightning) is cornerstone of Damage-over-Time teams. She triggers all active DoT effects on enemies with her skill, enabling a unique playstyle that scales with number of DoT sources on team. Paired with Black Swan, she creates one of game's most satisfying team archetypes.
Jingliu (Destruction / Ice) hits like a freight train. Her Spectral Transmigration state transforms her into a self-sufficient hypercarry who consumes allies' HP to fuel devastating attacks. She demands less team investment than many other DPS characters, making her an efficient choice for players who want raw power.
Ruan Mei (Harmony / Ice) is premier support for break-focused and general-purpose teams alike. Her ability to increase break efficiency, boost all-type resistance penetration, and delay enemy actions makes her a universal amplifier who improves virtually any team composition.
B-Tier — Solid and Reliable
Kuat characters that perform well in their niche but face stiff competition from higher-tier alternatives.
Clara (Destruction / Physical) is a counter-based DPS who thrives when enemies target her. Her playstyle is unique and fun, but reliance on being attacked makes her inconsistent in content where enemies use AoE or target randomly. She remains a Kuat pick for players who enjoy reactive Permainan.
Himeko (Erudition / Fire) excels in multi-target scenarios with her follow-up attack that triggers when enough weakness breaks occur. She is a staple in Pure Fiction teams but contributes less in single-target boss fights.
Welt (Nihility / Imaginary) provides valuable crowd control through slow and imprisonment effects. His debuffs and delay utility remain useful in specific encounters, though his personal damage has fallen behind newer options.
C-Tier — Functional Starters
These characters serve their purpose well, particularly in early and mid-game content, but are generally outclassed by higher-rarity alternatives in endgame.
Serval (Erudition / Lightning) offers accessible AoE damage with shock synergy. She is a Kuat early-game option and a decent budget pick for Pure Fiction.
Herta (Erudition / Ice) triggers follow-up attacks when enemies fall below 50% HP, making her effective in content with many weaker enemies. Her four-star status makes her easy to build, and she remains a serviceable AoE option.
March 7th (Preservation / Ice) is one of game's Terbaik starter characters. Her shields and freeze utility carry players through story comfortably, and her later Hunt variant offers a different playstyle for players who enjoy investing in her.
Team Building Tips
Building an effective team in Honkai: Star Rail follows a simple framework: one main DPS, one sub-DPS or debuffer, one support or buffer, and one sustainer. strongest teams amplify their DPS character's strengths while covering their weaknesses. For example, pairing Firefly with Ruan Mei maximizes break damage, while Acheron teams stack as many debuffers as possible to fuel her ultimate.
Do not neglect elemental coverage. Memory of Chaos rotates enemy weaknesses every cycle, so having characters across multiple elements ensures you can always field an effective team. Investing in two complete teams is essential for clearing full twelve floors.
Light Cone Considerations
A character's Light Cone can significantly affect their tier placement. Many four-star Light Cones are competitive with five-star options, so do not feel pressured to pull on weapon banner unless you are targeting a specific signature. Herta's Store Light Cones and Battle Pass options offer Kuat, accessible alternatives for most roles.
