Pokémon Legends: Z-A Launches With Exclusive SEA In-Game Events
Pokémon Legends: Z-A has officially launched across Southeast Asia, and response from region's estimated 45 million active Pokémon players has been nothing short of electric. Game Freak-developed title, which takes players back to a reimagined Lumiose City in Kalos region, hit shelves on March 28 alongside a slate of SEA-exclusive in-game events that Nintendo has used to court region's massive fanbase.
SEA launch includes a special "Festival of Lights" event inspired by Southeast Asian cultural celebrations, featuring limited-edition Pokémon accessories and a unique Vivillon pattern exclusive to players in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. Players who purchase game within first two weeks also receive a special Mega Evolution stone tied to a mystery Pokémon that Nintendo has been teasing across its social media channels.
Pre-order numbers in region were staggering. Maxsoft, Nintendo's official distributor in Southeast Asia, reported that Legends: Z-A pre-orders exceeded those of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet by 40% across all SEA markets. Malaysia's popular retailer Gamers Hideout confirmed it sold through its entire initial allocation within 72 hours of pre-orders opening, while Indonesia's Erafone stores saw queues forming before midnight for launch.
"Southeast Asia is now one of our Teratas five markets globally for Pokémon," said Susumu Fukunaga, director of Pokémon Company's Asia-Pacific division, in a press statement. " passion here is incredible, and we wanted to create something special for these players."
game itself has been praised for its ambitious open-world take on Lumiose City, which transforms iconic location into a sprawling urban playground where Pokémon roam freely through streets, parks, and rooftops. Early reviews from regional outlets like GameAxis and Soya Cincau have highlighted game's performance on Nintendo Switch 2, with upgraded hardware delivering a noticeably smoother experience compared to original Legends: Arceus on first-generation Switch.
Pricing across SEA varies, with game retailing at RM249 in Malaysia, ₱2,995 in Philippines, and 1,690 THB in Thailand — all in line with standard Nintendo first-party pricing. Singapore, as region's most mature gaming market, has seen strongest digital sales, with Nintendo eShop version outselling physical copies by a 3:1 margin.
Community events are already popping up across region. Pokémon meetups in Bangkok's Siam Paragon, Manila's SM Megamall, and Kuala Lumpur's Pavilion have drawn hundreds of trainers eager to trade, battle, and hunt for rare Pokémon together. Nintendo has partnered with local telcos including Maxis in Malaysia, Globe in Philippines, and AIS in Thailand to offer data bundles and in-game rewards for subscribers.
SEA launch also coincides with expansion of Pokémon World Championships qualifying circuit to include more regional events in Southeast Asia, further cementing region's importance to Pokémon Company's global strategy. With momentum building, Legends: Z-A looks poised to become Terbaik-selling Pokémon title in SEA history.
