Sony Is Nudging PS4 GTA 6 Fans To Upgrade Before Launch

If you are still holding on to your PS4 and waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6, Sony is basically saying: bro, it is time.

According to messages shared by PlayStation fans, Sony has reportedly started sending alerts to PS4 users who have GTA 6 on their wishlist. The message tells them that Grand Theft Auto VI is on their wishlist and suggests getting a PlayStation 5 so they will be ready when the game launches.

Some users reportedly received the prompt as a console notification, while others were shown a different version of the message. In certain cases, Sony even included a QR code to make the upgrade process easier.

It is not exactly shocking, but it does make the next-gen reality feel very real. GTA 6 is one of the biggest upcoming releases in gaming, and if you were hoping your trusty PS4 could somehow survive one more Rockstar generation, this is the clearest reminder yet that the old machine is being left behind.

PS4 era is really closing

The PS4 had an insane run, especially here in Malaysia and SEA where many players stretched the console for years because games were still playable, cheap second-hand discs were everywhere, and not everyone wanted to jump into PS5 pricing early.

But we are now at the point where major new releases are increasingly skipping last-gen hardware. For GTA fans, that matters a lot. This is not some small indie title you can wait out casually. GTA 6 is the kind of game that will dominate TikTok, Discord, mamak gaming talk, and probably every group chat from launch week onwards.

So if you are on PS4, the message is simple: you can still enjoy your backlog, but you will not be ready for Leonida without newer hardware.

Fans are split on the timing

Not everyone is happy with Sony’s reminder. Some players pointed out that the message feels rough because it arrives after console price increases, making the upgrade sting even more.

That reaction makes sense, especially in Malaysia. A PS5 is still a serious purchase, not an impulse buy for most students or working adults. Between the console, PS Plus, storage upgrades, and the game itself, GTA 6 could easily become a big-budget gaming month.

At the same time, some fans saw the notification as a good sign. Since the messages reportedly include the expected November 19, 2026 release date, players took it as reassurance that the game is still on track despite worries about another delay.

Of course, fans should still treat that as a platform message rather than a fresh Rockstar announcement. But it does show Sony is already preparing its PlayStation audience for the GTA 6 wave.

Why SEA players should care

For Malaysian and SEA gamers, this is basically your early warning to plan properly. If GTA 6 is a must-play for you, do not wait until launch week when demand could spike, bundles get weird, and everyone suddenly starts hunting for consoles.

If you already own a PS5, you are chilling. If you are still on PS4, this is the moment to decide whether you are upgrading, borrowing, buying used, or waiting.

Either way, GTA 6 is going to be one of those releases where the platform gap becomes impossible to ignore. The PS4 gave us a legendary generation, but for Rockstar’s next monster, Sony is making the message very clear: time to move on.
