Even though Playstation Asia announced the PlayStation 5 (PS5) Asia Celebration Showcase last week, fans were quick to point out the absence of news regarding the launch of the high-anticipated next-generation console. Fast forward to today (the day of the showcase, no less), and we finally have confirmation on the retail price and release date of the PS5 in Malaysia.
The PS5 Digital Edition will be sold at RM1,869, while the “normal” PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be sold at RM2,299, higher than the PS4’s launch price of RM1,799 in 2013. But when your PS5 has a custom high-end processor with integrated CPU and GPU to deliver ultra-high graphics in up to 4K, with an insanely high-speed SSD for lightning-quick loading, it’s unsurprising for the price to be ramped up. Not to mention you have the all-new DualSense Wireless Controller with haptic feedback and dynamic adaptive triggers for total immersion, so you can feel the game you play more.
Here are the prices for the following PS5 accessories too:
- DualSense™ Wireless Controller (individual) – RM349
- PULSE 3D™ wireless headset, with 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones – RM469
- HD Camera, with dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with their epic gameplay moments – RM279
- Media Remote, to navigate movies and streaming services with ease – RM149
- DualSense™ Charging Station, to conveniently charge two DualSense Wireless Controllers RM149
Apart from that, based on the latest pricing of PS5 exclusive games, looks like we have to expect next-generation games to be more expensive now. Brand new PS4 games tend to be as high as RM259 in their standard editions, but the price for Demon’s Souls has been revealed to be RM299. Marvel’s Spider-Man Miles Morales may be priced lower at RM209, but keep in mind that Miles Morales is more like a huge expansion than a main game akin to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which sold at RM169 upon release.
And finally, PS5 launches next month on 11 December in Malaysia, with pre-orders beginning tomorrow (12 November) in Malaysia. You can find all the official retailers that will accept PS5 pre-orders on the official Playstation website, plus full specs of the PS5.
Don’t forget to catch the PlayStation 5 (PS5) Asia Celebration Showcase tonight (11 November) at 11PM (GMT +8) on YouTube, with JJ Lin, Joakim Gomez and Victoria Cheng making an appearance.
