Rex bids farewell to Team Secret MY

Feb 16, 2021 Bryan "soupykambing" Terng

Another tough goodbye has dawned upon the PUBG Mobile squad of Team Secret, with Asyam “Rex” Allam leaving the team. The confirmation was announced by Team Secret on Facebook at 7PM today.

“I want to say thank you for the many things you taught me in the past few months,” said Rex in a heartfelt video that was posted on the Team Secret PUBG Mobile Facebook group, presumably directed at the esports organisation and his cohorts. “Thank you for never giving up on me, (and) thank you for this big opportunity that not everyone can get easily.”

It’s been exactly 230 days (early July last year) since Rex joined the reputable Team Secret MY, one of the top Malaysian teams in the PUBG Mobile scene. When the then-four-man team were hosting tryouts for a new fifth member, they approached the PUBG Mobile prodigy after miracle boy Uhigh – who was impressed by Rex’s gameplay uploads on Instagram – suggested them to. Long story short, they clicked so well during scrims that they decided to enlist him.

“I still have a lot more to learn, but I’m glad and honoured to be part of a prestigious team like Team Secret and improve with them,” the humble youngling said back then.

Rex’s first public appearance with Team Secret was in the PMWL 2020 East (PUBG Mobile World League Spring Split East Division Season Zero). Though they only placed 15th, Rex’s next international appearance in PMGC 2020 (PUBG Mobile Global Championship Season Zero) was a huge step up, ending their run with seventh place in the Finals.

He also helped the team win their second PUBG Mobile Professional League Malaysia/Singapore (PMPL MY/SG) championship title, as well as sixth place in PMPL SEA Finals Season 2 which helped them qualify for PMGC.

“Thank you to fans who have been a part of our journey through ups and downs,” Rex said, swallowing in between sentences. It’s a tough pill for everyone to take in too, but no matter what, we know that the future remains bright and promising for Rex.

See you very soon, Rex! And thank you for all your hard work and dedication.
