Gamers with iOS devices will be pleased to know that the latest game by BAFTA-winning studio State of Play, South of the Circle is now available to play on the Apple Arcade. A narrative adventure game featuring the talents of Gwilym Lee (Bohemian Rhapsody), Olivia Vinall (The Woman in White), Richard Goulding (Belgravia), Anton Lesser (Game of Thrones), Adrian Rawlins (Chernobyl), and Michael Fox (Downton Abbey); the game tells the story of a Cambridge academic who stumbles from the wreckage of a crashed aircraft in search of help, fighting the cold. As his attempts to escape the ice grow more desperate, the lines between his past and present begin to blur.
Set in Antarctica, 1964, against the backdrop of the Cold War, it also tells a love story between the academic and his colleague, and touches on themes such as memory, survival, and the consequences of not dealing with the past. The visuals of the game are gorgeous and the world was touted to be deeply researched for authenticity. With a focus on narrative and nuanced emotional choices that are selected through a unique symbol-based mechanic, it is easily playable by anybody familiar with gaming on a mobile device.
South of the Circle is available for the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Check it out on the Apple Arcade!
