Whales Esports Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Malaysia Championship Season 1 Announced, Registration Open Now

Posted by George Wong on July 9, 2021

We know that esports is starting to be a big deal here in Malaysia, with leagues like the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) and PUBG Mobile Professional League (PMPL) getting a lot of attention over the past year, opening doors for talented people to make a living off their video game skills. Since then we've seen a number of leagues for people who aren't at that level yet and trying to break into the scene, and one of them is the newly announced tournament from Whales Esports - the MLBB Malaysia Championship.

Open to amateur MLBB players in the country (they mentioned that they will be doing background checks on all participants, so if you're a professional player, this isn't for you), it will feature state-wide qualifiers, a regular season for the whole nation, and a playoffs stage. The best teams in the tournament will get the biggest cut of the RM30,000 + 210,000 Diamond prize pool!

Here are the dates for the tournament:

Phase 1 – State Qualifier (2 - 19 August 2021)

  • Qualifiers will be held on each state in Malaysia (13 states and W.P. Kuala Lumpur)
  • Winner of the qualifier will represent their state for Phase 2

Phase 2 – Regular Season (30 - 21 September 2021)

  • 14 teams from each state will play in a league format, where the top 8 teams will advance to Phase 3.

Phase 3 – Playoff Season (3 – 21 October 2021)

  • Double elimination format will be used to decide the champion of MMC Season 10.

The registration for MMC Season 1 is now open and it will be closed on 25/7/2021. If you're keen on playing, sign up now or head here for instructions. With this tournament, Whales Esports hopes to bring together more esports players and open up more job opportunities in the industry for producers, production crews, broadcasters, analysts and more - a noble mission to help grow the scene.
