Dragon Ball fans finally have a clearer idea of how far the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Beerus remake will go, and it looks bigger than many expected.

At Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, a new trailer confirmed that the remake is not only revisiting the Battle of Gods storyline, where Goku first clashes with Beerus and unlocks Super Saiyan God, but will also continue into Resurrection of Frieza. That means fans are getting a refreshed version of Goku vs Golden Frieza too.

That is a pretty major deal. A lot of people assumed this project would mainly focus on the Beerus material, especially since that arc is such an important reset point for modern Dragon Ball. Instead, the new footage suggests Toei is aiming for something more ambitious, with the Frieza return potentially serving as one of the remake’s biggest highlights.

This remake was first announced earlier this year during the franchise’s 40th anniversary event, alongside news that Dragon Ball Super would also continue by adapting the Galactic Patrol Prisoner saga from the manga. Since then, fans have been waiting to see what the anime’s next steps would actually look like. Now, at least for the remake side, things are starting to take shape.

According to comments shared at the event, the goal here is not just to clean up old footage. Executives said the remake is being built around upgraded visuals, a reconstructed story, and newly added cuts. In other words, this sounds more like a meaningful rebuild than a basic remaster. If that approach carries over properly, the Frieza fight could end up feeling very different from the version fans watched more than a decade ago.

That possibility has even more weight because Masako Nozawa, the voice of Goku, is already talking up the project. During a recent Dragon Ball event, she looked back on how intense the Beerus battle was, then pointed out that Frieza shows up right after, just like the new trailer indicates. She did not spoil anything big, but she made it clear she hopes fans are excited for this updated take on Goku’s battle with Frieza.

And honestly, fair enough. Goku vs Frieza is not just another Dragon Ball matchup. It is one of anime’s most iconic rivalries full stop. Even people who do not follow every new Dragon Ball release usually know that name combo instantly. Bringing that clash back with modern production, extra scenes, and a reworked flow is exactly the kind of move that can get longtime fans and newer viewers in at the same time.

For Malaysia and the wider SEA anime crowd, this matters because Dragon Ball is still one of those evergreen series that cuts across generations. Older fans grew up with the classic rivalry, while younger viewers know these characters through newer anime runs, games, clips, and convention culture. A remake that packages the Beerus debut and Frieza’s return into one modernised run could easily become the cleanest way for local fans to revisit one of the franchise’s biggest turning points.

The series is set to begin airing this fall, so there is still time before we see how much it actually changes. But based on what has been shown so far, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is shaping up as more than a nostalgia play. If the production lands, this could be the version of Goku vs Frieza that a whole new wave of fans remembers first.
