Toei 正式更深入踏入遊戲圈——而且不是，這不只是另一個 anime tie-in project。
2026 年 4 月 21 日，Toei Company 宣布成立 Toei Games，一個專注於發行 video games 的全新 publishing label。該 label 的首個 announcement 已經鎖定在 2026 年 4 月 24 日，不過 Toei 目前還未公開 release window。
目前計劃會先從 Steam 上的 PC games 開始，未來作品也會登上 home consoles，包括 PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch。這個 platform spread 對 SEA players 來說很重要，因為 Steam 依然是很多 Malaysian gamers 最容易入坑的入口，而 Switch 和 PS5 在本地 anime/gaming 圈子也依然很強。
更有趣的是 Toei Games 沒有 做什麼——至少這第一波是這樣。根據 announcement，公司一開始並不是靠現有 franchises 起步。這代表目前這個新 label 之下，還沒有 confirmed Dragon Ball, One Piece, Kamen Rider，或其他大家熟悉的 Toei properties。相反地，Toei Games 會專注在 new game-original IPs。
這招很 bold 啊，bro。Toei 背後有幾十年的 heavyweight entertainment history，所以最安全、最明顯的打法其實就是再推出一款 licensed anime game。選擇 original，代表公司想打造一個能先作為 game 站得住腳的東西，而不只是現有 fanbase 的 merchandise。
Toei 似乎也不只是瞄準日本市場。它的 press release 提到來自日本與海外的 creators，暗示 Toei Games 想建立更 international 的 creative pipeline。對 Malaysia 和更廣泛的 SEA 地區來說，如果這些 games 從第一天開始就是以 global players 為考量來設計，那可能是好消息——尤其是 Steam availability、language support、pricing，以及 simultaneous releases 這幾點。
這個新 label 的 identity 背後還有一個很好玩的細節。Toei Games logo 是由 Kairosoft 創作的，也就是那個以可愛 sprite-based simulation games 聞名的 studio，作品包括 Game Dev Story, Dungeon Village, and Doraemon Dorayaki Shop Story。Logo 本身是以 pixel animation 方式重新詮釋 Toei 著名的 opening logo「Waves on the Rough Shore」，長期看 anime 和 tokusatsu 的 fans 應該會從 Toei 的 productions 認出來。
根據 announcement，Toei Games 成員還親自拜訪 Kairosoft 的 headquarters 來委託製作這個 logo。這個小小 collaboration 已經讓這個 label 感覺更 game-native，而不是那種隨便開一個 corporate side project 的味道。
補充一下背景，Toei Company 成立於 1949 年，是日本主要 entertainment names 之一。它的 footprint 涵蓋 anime、tokusatsu、films、period dramas 等等。公司也參與過多部 major works 和 franchises，包括 Battle Royale, Kamen Rider, Dragon Ball, and One Piece。
現在最大的問題很簡單：當 Toei 不依賴現有 IP catalogue 時，它到底想發行怎樣的 game？
如果 4 月 24 日的 reveal 是一款小型 experimental title，那依然很有趣。如果是更大型、並且有 international creators 參與的作品，那 Toei Games 可能會變成一個值得密切關注的新 label——尤其對那些從小看 Toei anime 和 tokusatsu 長大的 SEA fans 來說。
無論如何，首個 reveal 會告訴我們 Toei Games 只是 testing the waters，還是真的想在 games publishing scene 裡成為一個 proper player。
