Call of Duty May Lose Day-One Game Pass, But Classic CoD Could Still Win Big

Call of Duty fans on Game Pass may need to adjust expectations a bit. According to reporting cited by Destructoid, Xbox’s cheaper Game Pass setup now comes with one big trade-off: future mainline Call of Duty releases are no longer expected to land on the service from day one.

That sounds painful at first, especially for players who use Game Pass to avoid paying full price for every annual shooter. For Malaysian and SEA gamers, where one new premium release can easily become a “wait for sale lah” decision, day-one access was a huge part of the appeal.

But this may not mean Call of Duty is disappearing from Game Pass. The more likely shift is timing. Instead of launching instantly on the subscription, newer entries could arrive around a year later. Not ideal for players who want to grind multiplayer on launch week, but still useful for casual fans, campaign players, Zombies enjoyers, and anyone who does not need to be first into every lobby.

The more interesting part? PC Gamer reportedly says more Call of Duty games are still planned for Game Pass in 2026, even if the next mainline CoD skips day-one availability. That opens the door for Xbox and Activision to finally bring more of the older catalogue into the subscription.

Right now, Game Pass only covers a small slice of the franchise. The newer Modern Warfare reboot trilogy, Black Ops 6, Black Ops 7, and Call of Duty: WWII are available, but a lot of the legendary stuff is still missing.

And bro, that back catalogue is stacked.

Xbox could pull from the original Modern Warfare era, the first two Black Ops games, Call of Duty 1 and 2, or even World at War. For older fans, those are not just nostalgia picks. They are the games that shaped what CoD became: tight campaigns, iconic multiplayer maps, and Zombies before it became its own monster.

World at War and the early Black Ops titles would be especially strong additions for SEA players who missed them on older consoles or never had the chance to play them properly on PC. A Game Pass release could give these games a second life, especially if matchmaking, compatibility, or PC support gets cleaned up along the way.

Call of Duty 3 is another interesting case. Since it never came to PC, Game Pass could theoretically become the best chance for that entry to reach more platforms. Nothing is confirmed yet, but with Activision now under Microsoft, the old “stuck on legacy hardware” problem feels less impossible to solve.

For competitive players, losing day-one CoD access still hurts. The launch window is when everyone is learning maps, weapons, and meta builds together. If you care about ranked, Warzone integration, or keeping up with your squad, arriving a year late is not the same experience.

But for everyone else, a stronger classic CoD library on Game Pass could be a pretty solid trade. Instead of one new game every year, Xbox could turn the service into a proper Call of Duty archive.

If the report is accurate, 2026 may not be about getting the newest CoD immediately. It may be about Xbox finally letting fans revisit the games that made the series legendary in the first place.
