Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1 Preview: Banners, Meta Shifts, and Should You Save?

ZZZ 2.1 is stacked, and that is bad news for your Polychrome

HoYoverse has officially shown off Zenless Zone Zero Version 2.1, and this patch is looking brutal for anyone trying to stay disciplined. Ukinami Yuzuha and Alice are the new S-Rank units, while Hoshimi Miyabi and Tsukishiro Yanagi return as reruns. For Asia server players, especially in Malaysia and the wider SEA crowd, this is one of those banner cycles where one bad 50/50 can send your whole savings plan into the drain.

Version 2.1, titled The Impending Crash of Waves, is expected to land on July 16, 2025, following ZZZ's usual Asia server rollout on PC, iOS, Android, and PS5. That matters here because SEA players usually care about two things first: ping and pull value. On the server side, we should be fine. On the wallet side, bro, different story.

Banner schedule and patch highlights

Phase 1, July 16 to August 6

  • Ukinami Yuzuha, new S-Rank Physical Support
  • Hoshimi Miyabi, S-Rank Ice Anomaly rerun
  • Signature W-Engines: Metanukimorphosis and Hailstorm Shrine

Phase 2, August 6 to September 3

  • Alice, new S-Rank Physical Anomaly
  • Tsukishiro Yanagi, S-Rank Electric Anomaly rerun
  • Signature W-Engines: Practiced Perfection and Timeweaver

Version 2.1 is also bringing:

  • Season 2 Chapter 2 story content
  • New areas Sailume Bay and Fantasy Resort
  • New S-Rank Bangboo Miss Esme
  • Summer outfits for Yuzuha, Alice, Belle, and Wise
  • A 1,600 Polychrome login reward, which is basically 10 pulls

So no, this is not a filler patch. This is HoYoverse doing the classic move of giving you beach vibes while quietly testing your self-control.

Why SEA players should care more than usual

ZZZ already has a strong audience in Southeast Asia because HoYoverse built that habit with Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail. A lot of Malaysian players treat these games as long-term side hobbies, not one-week distractions, which means banner planning matters way more than random hype.

The pricing pressure is very real too. In Malaysia, Inter-Knot Membership sits around RM19.90 on Codashop MY, while the 6,480 Monochrome pack is roughly RM399.90. Since one pull costs 160 Polychrome, that big pack only gets you about 40 pulls before first-time bonuses. That is not even half of hard pity. If you top up through Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, or local bank cards, you will definitely feel it.

That is why this patch matters so much in SEA. Players here are usually willing to spend a bit, but only when the value feels worth it.

Meta read: Yuzuha could be the smartest pull

Early theorycrafting makes Yuzuha look like the most important banner in 2.1. Strong support units usually age better than fresh DPS characters, and ZZZ's current endgame already leans heavily toward Anomaly and Disorder teams. If Yuzuha boosts those comps the way players expect, she could become the kind of unit that upgrades multiple rosters at once.

Miyabi is still the safest rerun if you missed her. She is already proven, already cracked, and still one of the cleanest carry options in the game.

Yanagi remains a premium choice for Electric and Disorder players. Alice is the biggest wild card. She could end up excellent, but new DPS units usually need a bit of live testing before we slap the must-pull label on them.

Should you save or pull?

Pull Yuzuha if:

  • you want the most flexible long-term upgrade
  • you already run Anomaly or Disorder teams
  • you are F2P or monthly-pass only

Pull Miyabi if:

  • you skipped her the first time
  • your account still needs a premium main carry
  • you want the safest immediate power jump

Pull Yanagi if:

  • your roster already supports Electric or Disorder comps
  • you want to strengthen an existing team instead of starting fresh

Wait on Alice if:

  • you can only guarantee one S-Rank this patch
  • you want week-one testing before committing
  • your account is already fine on Physical damage

What to watch next

The final verdict will come down to three things: Yuzuha's actual numbers, Alice's launch-week performance, and the total amount of free pulls HoYoverse gives out across the patch. Right now, Version 2.1 looks less like a "pull whoever you like" patch and more like a pick one lane and commit patch.

That is probably the smartest way to play it in SEA. Grab the freebies, enjoy the summer event, and do not let four premium names in one update bait you into panic pulling.
