Attack on Titan: The Last Attack Gets One-Night Cinema Return, But Malaysia Still Waiting

Attack on Titan may have ended, but bro, this franchise refuses to disappear quietly.

Crunchyroll has confirmed that Attack on Titan: The Last Attack is heading back to cinemas in the US and Canada for a one-night-only screening on May 18, 2026. The re-release is part of Crunchyroll Anime Nights, and it will be shown in Japanese audio with English subtitles.

For now, this announcement is only confirmed for North America. So Malaysian fans should not start checking GSC, TGV, or Dadi listings just yet. Still, this is worth watching because anime theatrical events have been getting more global over the past few years, especially for big names like Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, Haikyuu!! and, of course, Attack on Titan.

The Last Attack is not a brand-new sequel. It is a compilation film that combines the anime finale specials into one theatrical experience. The film first premiered in Japan in November 2024, giving fans a more cinema-style version of the final stretch of Eren, Mikasa, Armin and the rest of the Survey Corps' brutal ending.

That matters because Attack on Titan is one of those shows that hits differently on a big screen. The Rumbling, the final battles, the soundtrack, the emotional damage — all of that memang built for cinema. Even if you have already watched the finale at home, a proper theatrical version is basically the anime equivalent of re-entering trauma mode with better sound.

Attack on Titan began as Hajime Isayama's manga before the anime exploded worldwide after its 2013 debut. WIT Studio handled the first three seasons, establishing the show's sharp action, horror atmosphere and iconic character designs. MAPPA later took over for the post-timeskip material and final arc, carrying the story into its much darker political and apocalyptic phase.

At the moment, there is still no official sequel, spin-off anime, or manga continuation announced by Isayama. That has not stopped the franchise machine from moving. Attack on Titan continues to roll out special projects, artwork, merchandise and event screenings for fans who are not quite ready to let go.

One of the bigger upcoming projects is Attack on Titan: Symphony from Paradis, the franchise's first orchestral concert tour. The tour is planned for multiple regions including the US, Europe and Asia, starting in October. For SEA fans, that Asia mention is the one to keep an eye on. If Malaysia or nearby hubs like Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, or Manila get dates, expect tickets to move fast.

WIT Studio is also running a monthly illustration project featuring new artwork by Kyoji Asano, a major creative force behind the earlier seasons. Asano worked as chief animation director, character designer, key animator and even directed opening and ending sequences during the WIT era. The new visuals are meant for in-store displays and merchandise bonuses.

So what does this mean for Malaysian fans? Right now, the cinema re-release is not local news yet. But it is a signal that Attack on Titan still has enough pull for distributors to keep testing theatrical events. If Crunchyroll or local cinema partners decide to expand screenings beyond North America, Malaysia should absolutely be in the conversation.

Until then, keep your eyes on official cinema pages and Crunchyroll channels. Attack on Titan may be over, but clearly, the final salute is still getting encore after encore.
