Aniplex has properly opened the doors on the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou, also known as The Case Files of Biblia Bookstore — and yes, this one is now officially aiming for a 2027 premiere.

The newly launched official site revealed the anime's main cast, core staff, teaser visual, and teaser promotional video, giving fans their first proper look at how En Mikami's bookshop mystery series will be handled in anime form.

For the lead roles, Riko Akechi will voice Shioriko Shinokawa, while Shunsuke Takeuchi will voice Daisuke Goura. Shioriko is the owner of the Biblia Antiquarian Bookshop, a quiet secondhand bookstore tucked away in Kamakura. She may not be the most naturally social shopkeeper, but when it comes to rare books, literary history, and the secrets hidden inside old pages, she is basically in detective mode.

The staff lineup is also pretty interesting. Mamoru Kanbe, known for Shoushimin Series, is directing the anime, with Ayako Kurata as assistant director. Toshiya Oono, who worked on 86, is handling series composition. Character design and chief animation director duties go to Jun Nakai, whose credits include NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, while Takahiro Obata of The Promised Neverland fame is composing the music. Animation production is by CloverWorks.

That CloverWorks name will probably be the main eyebrow-raiser for many SEA anime fans. The studio has had its share of high-profile hits and some uneven moments, but when it lands the tone properly, it can make quieter character-driven stories look and feel premium. For a series like Biblia, which sounds less like big action spectacle and more like a slow-burn literary mystery, atmosphere matters a lot. If the anime can nail the cozy bookstore vibe, Kamakura setting, and the emotional weight behind each book's mystery, this could be a very nice change of pace from the usual seasonal noise.

The original novel started in March 2011, written by En Mikami with illustrations by Hagu Koshijima under the Media Works Bunko label. Kadokawa published the 11th volume in March 2024, with the 12th volume planned for April 24. The series has also reached a strong 8.5 million copies in circulation, so this is not some random niche pick-up — it already has a serious reader base in Japan.

Biblia has also been adapted into manga more than once. Nakano's manga version began in Altima Ace in February 2012, later moving to Monthly Asuka, and ended in July 2014 with six volumes. Another manga adaptation by Ryou Kouda ran in good! Afternoon from July 2012 to September 2013, ending with three volumes. More recently, Haruki Niwa began adapting the tenth novel volume, subtitled Tobirako to Utsuro na Yume, through Young Ace UP! in February 2024.

There was also an 11-episode live-action drama on Fuji TV back in 2013, so the franchise has already proven it can work outside the page.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, this is one to keep on the radar if you like mystery anime that is more brainy and emotional than flashy. Think less tournament arc, more quiet late-night watch with kopi ais, especially if you enjoy stories about objects carrying personal histories. No streaming platform has been mentioned yet, so we will have to wait and see where it lands for our region.

Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou is scheduled to premiere in 2027.
