Black Torch Adds More Veteran Voices Ahead Of July Anime Premiere

Black Torch is filling out its lineup before launch

The upcoming Black Torch TV anime has added more names to its cast and production team, giving fans a clearer picture of what to expect before the series kicks off on July 4.

According to the anime’s official website, the series will premiere on Tokyo MX and other Japanese TV stations. The show adapts Tsuyoshi Takaki’s action supernatural manga, which already gives it a pretty easy hook for anime fans who like ninja-style combat, yokai energy, and darker shounen vibes.

For Malaysian and SEA viewers, this is one to keep an eye on in the summer anime window. We don’t have local streaming details in this update yet, but titles like this usually become part of the weekly “what are we watching this season?” conversation very quickly if the action lands well.

New cast members announced

The latest update confirms three additional voice actors joining the anime:

  • Shinpachi Tsuji as Toshimasa Azuma
  • Yuuko Kaida as Touko Kusumi
  • Houchuu Ootsuka as Banjuro Tokieda

That last name should instantly catch attention for a lot of anime fans. Houchuu Ootsuka is well known from Golden Kamuy, and his presence usually means the character will have serious weight — the kind of voice that can make an older mentor, enemy, or authority figure feel instantly legit.

Yuuko Kaida is also a familiar name for viewers who follow modern anime closely, with credits including Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi. Meanwhile, Shinpachi Tsuji brings another veteran presence to the supporting cast.

Basically, Black Torch is not just throwing unknown names into the mix. The production is stacking experienced voices around the core cast, which matters for a supernatural action series where world-building and character attitude need to hit fast.

Extra staff detail

The update also lists Mariko Kinoshita as sub character designer. That may sound like a smaller credit compared to director or main character designer, but for anime fans who care about visual consistency, it is still important.

In action-supernatural shows, side characters can easily look plain if the design work is not tight. A strong sub character design role helps make the wider cast feel like they belong in the same world, especially when the story involves clans, enemies, allies, and probably a lot of stylish face-offs.

Why SEA fans should care

Black Torch has the kind of premise that could travel well in Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Action manga adaptations with supernatural elements tend to do nicely here because they are easy to jump into weekly: cool powers, dramatic fights, mysterious factions, and characters you can argue about in group chats.

The July 4 premiere timing also places it in the summer anime season, which is usually competitive. If the first episode has strong animation and enough personality, Black Torch could become one of those “bro, try episode one first” recommendations.

Right now, the big thing missing for us locally is streaming confirmation. Malaysian fans will want to know whether it lands on the usual regional platforms, and whether simulcast timing is friendly for SEA viewers. Until that is confirmed, this update is mainly a signal that the anime’s rollout is moving steadily toward launch.

For now: good cast additions, a clear premiere date, and a supernatural action setup with potential. Not time to overhype yet, but Black Torch is officially worth putting on the summer watchlist.
