The upcoming Black Torch TV anime is getting closer to launch, and the production team has revealed a fresh batch of cast and staff details ahead of its July 4 debut.
For anime fans in Malaysia and SEA who keep one eye on every new shonen-style seasonal drop, this is one to watch. Black Torch comes from Tsuyoshi Takaki, the creator also known for Heart Gear, and the original manga ran in Shueisha’s Jump Square magazine from December 2016 until its fifth and final compiled volume shipped in August 2018.
New cast revealed
Three more voice actors have now joined the anime’s line-up:
- Chikahachi Tsuji as Toshimasa Azuma
- Yuko Kaida as Toko Kusumi
- Hochu Otsuka as Banjuro Tokieda
Toshimasa Azuma is connected directly to protagonist Jiro Azuma’s family background. He is Jiro’s grandfather and raised him after Jiro lost his parents. The Azuma family comes from a shinobi bloodline, and while Toshimasa often has to discipline Jiro for being too quick to fight, he also clearly treats him like his own child.
Toko Kusumi sounds like the kind of authority figure who could shake up the story’s power structure. She leads Special Service Division 1 inside the Public Security Hidden Agency, described as the strongest section in terms of both manpower and influence. She is cold, capable, and rose through the ranks unusually young. The reveal also notes that Shiba was once her colleague.
Banjuro Tokieda works under Kusumi in Special Service Division 1. On paper, he gives off a calm and gentle impression, but he is also reliable across everything from driving to combat. Basically, the “don’t judge this uncle by the soft smile” type of character.
More staff confirmed
The newly announced production staff includes:
- Sub-character design: Yumi Nakamura, Masahiko Suzuki, Mariko Kinoshita
- Art directors: Sachi Takahashi, Shoko Imaizumi
- Director of photography: Satoshi Yamamoto
The main staff is already looking solid. Kei Umabiki is directing the anime at 100Studio, with Go Suzuki handling character designs. Gigaemon Ichikawa is supervising and writing the series scripts, while Yutaka Yamada is composing the music. That last name should catch attention — Yamada’s credits include Tokyo Ghoul, so if Black Torch leans hard into stylish supernatural action, the soundtrack could be a major part of the vibe.
Streaming situation for Malaysia and SEA
Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream Black Torch in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS. The announcement, however, does not list Asia or Southeast Asia among the confirmed regions.
That matters for Malaysian fans because it means we still need to wait for proper regional streaming info. Sometimes SEA rights land on different platforms depending on the title, so don’t assume Crunchyroll Malaysia access is locked in yet. If you’re planning your Summer 2026 watchlist, keep Black Torch on the radar — but wait for local availability before calling it a guaranteed simulcast here.
Viz Media publishes the manga in English, so readers who prefer to check the source material first have that route available.
