Bless Heads to Crunchyroll in 2027 as A-1 Pictures Swaps Battles for Beauty

A-1 Pictures’ next announced Crunchyroll title is trading monster fights for a different kind of pressure: finding your place in the fashion industry. Bless, adapted from Yukino Sonoyama’s manga, is heading to the streaming platform in 2027, with a new trailer accompanying the announcement.

The studio’s name will be familiar through Solo Leveling and Sword Art Online, but this project puts makeup, modelling and competing ideas of beauty at the centre of the story. Same studio, very different arena.

What is confirmed about the release?

Bless is scheduled to begin airing in Japan in January 2027, placing it in the Winter 2027 anime season. A specific premiere date has not been announced.

Crunchyroll has confirmed exclusive streaming rights for territories worldwide excluding Japan and China. The announcement establishes the platform and broad release window, but it does not provide an exact streaming premiere date.

For now, January is the confirmed Japanese broadcast window—not a specific day to circle on your calendar.

Two students, neither fitting the expected mould

The story follows two young students whose ambitions and insecurities put them at odds with what others might expect of them.

One has the appearance of a potential model but wants to work as a makeup artist instead. The other is a shy girl who conceals her face because of her freckles. Their partnership becomes the foundation for a gradual climb through the fashion world.

That setup makes the central tension clear: looking the part and choosing your own direction are not necessarily the same thing. Rather than treating beauty as a straightforward advantage, Bless explores what it means to different people and the obstacles within an industry built around appearance.

The production team behind Bless

Shotaro Kitamura is directing the adaptation at A-1 Pictures, with Takayuki Kikuchi serving as assistant director. Fukurou Kamiza is handling scripts, while Ryo Yoshimata is composing the music.

Honoko Yokoyama is responsible for character designs and also serves as a chief animation director alongside Tetsuya Kawakami and Reina Iwasaki.

The announced voice cast includes:

  • Tomohiro Ono as Aia Udagawa
  • Chiyuki Miura as Jun Sumisaki
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Ginga Yoyogi
  • Yoshino Aoyama as Oroka Sumeragi
  • Momoka Terasawa as Shitataka Sumeragi
  • Kentaro Kumagai as MM
  • Yoshiki Nakajima as Joe Osaki
  • Koki Uchiyama as Akiharu Nakano
  • Tarusuke Shingaki as Hikaru Oya

Our take: why Malaysia and SEA readers should keep an eye on it

Analysis: For Malaysian and Southeast Asian readers building a 2027 watchlist, the useful hook is the change of subject. If A-1 Pictures caught your attention through action-heavy shows, Bless offers a reason to follow the studio into a story where creative ambition and self-image drive the conflict instead.

Its premise also gives the adaptation a specific visual challenge. Makeup choices, facial expressions and the way characters present themselves need to communicate more than simply whether someone looks attractive. Those details could determine how convincingly the anime handles its ideas about beauty.

A studio credit alone does not guarantee the result. Still, a fashion-focused partnership with contrasting ambitions is a solid reason to stay curious. The next useful update will be a firm premiere date; until then, Bless is a Winter 2027 title worth tracking.
