NIS America has dropped a new trailer for Brigandine: Abyss, confirming that the next entry in Happinet's long-running strategy series is coming worldwide this August.
The game launches first on PC via Steam on August 26, followed by PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on August 27. One small note for collectors: the Xbox version is digital-only, so if you are the type who still likes a box on the shelf, PS5 and Switch 2 are the versions to watch.
For SEA players, especially the Malaysian crowd that grew up on PlayStation tactics games, this is one of those niche-but-interesting releases. Brigandine is not exactly mainstream like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics, but it sits in that same satisfying zone of map control, army management, fantasy kingdoms, and long-term strategy decisions. If you like games where positioning and nation-building matter more than button-mashing, this one deserves a spot on your radar.
What is included in Brigandine: Abyss?
According to the latest details, Brigandine: Abyss will feature six new story campaigns. Players can also jump into Mission Mode, where they can command any of the game's 24 nations.
That setup sounds pretty generous for tactics fans. Six campaigns should give players multiple perspectives on the world, while 24 playable nations in Mission Mode could be the real time sink. For Malaysian players used to squeezing hundreds of hours out of strategy games between work, class, mamak sessions, and late-night Discord calls, this is exactly the kind of game that can quietly eat your whole month.
There will also be a Deluxe Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 and PS5, which comes with a mini art book and digital soundtrack. No Malaysia pricing was mentioned in the source details, so we will have to wait for local store listings or regional digital pricing closer to launch.
A very solid creative team behind it
The staff list is actually quite stacked. Makoto Yamamoto, known for the Sengoku Basara series, is directing the game, while Izuru Matsuno, also from Sengoku Basara, is handling the story.
The game is being supervised by Masayuki Horikawa, whose credits include Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. That alone should make tactics fans perk up a bit. Character designs are being handled by Junko Kawano of Suikoden and Eiyuden Chronicle fame, alongside Hayashi Niji, who worked on Fire Emblem Heroes and Shadowverse. Music comes from Rei Kondō, whose credits include Ōkami, Bayonetta, and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Basically, this is not some random fantasy tactics project with no pedigree. There are a lot of names here that strategy RPG and classic JRPG fans will recognise.
Why Brigandine still matters
The original Brigandine launched on PlayStation back in 1998, developed by Hearty Robin, with Atlus publishing it in the United States. A remake titled Brigandine: Grand Edition followed in 2000, though it never received an English release.
The series returned years later with Brigandine: The Legend of Runersia, developed by Matrix Software. That game launched digitally on Switch in June 2020, came to PS4 in December 2020, and later reached PC via Steam in May 2022.
So yes, Brigandine has always been a bit of a cult pick. But in 2026, with tactics RPGs getting more attention again, Brigandine: Abyss could land nicely with players who want something deeper and slower than the usual live-service grind.
If the regional pricing is fair, this could be a solid pickup for Malaysian strategy fans on Steam or console. Not every game needs to be loud and flashy. Sometimes you just want to conquer a fantasy continent, one careful move at a time.
