Bungo Stray Dogs is officially in anniversary mode, and Crunchyroll is giving fans a proper look back at the anime’s first decade.
The series, adapted from Kafka Asagiri and Sango Harukawa’s manga, first arrived as a TV anime in 2016. Ten years later, Crunchyroll has released a special trailer revisiting the franchise’s anime journey so far, timed with its 10th anniversary celebration. The trailer was also part of the celebration around Anime NYC 2026, where the franchise had a special panel marking the milestone.
For longtime fans, this is the kind of nostalgia drop that hits nicely. Bungo Stray Dogs has built its identity around a very specific hook: stylish supernatural battles involving characters inspired by famous literary figures. It sounds wild on paper, but that mix of detective drama, action, and author references is exactly why the series managed to stand out across multiple seasons.
But here’s the part fans are really watching: the anniversary trailer is not a Season 6 announcement.
Bungo Stray Dogs Season 5 ended its run in 2023, and since then, there has been no confirmation that the main TV anime will continue with a sixth season. That makes this 10th anniversary moment bittersweet. It proves the franchise still has enough pull for Crunchyroll to spotlight it, but it does not answer the biggest question hanging over the fandom.
The franchise has not been totally quiet, to be fair. Bungo Stray Dogs WAN!!, the official spin-off with a cuter and lighter version of the cast, returned for a second season this summer. The spin-off brings back staff and cast from the main anime, and it is available on Crunchyroll with Japanese and English audio options.
Still, WAN!! is a different flavour. Cute chibi chaos is fun, sure, but it is not the same as getting the mainline action series back. Fans who are waiting for the serious plot, fights, and character drama are still stuck in limbo.
The bigger franchise picture is also a bit mixed. Across the anime side, Bungo Stray Dogs has five TV seasons, two seasons of the spin-off, and a feature film. At the same time, its mobile game shut down earlier this spring, and the manga has also gone through various hiatus periods. Put together, it makes the lack of a Season 6 tease feel even louder.
