Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc Hits Crunchyroll on April 30 for Ani-May

Crunchyroll is bringing Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc to streaming on April 30, which is huge news if you missed the cinema run or have been waiting to rewatch Denji’s messiest emotional arc from the comfort of home.

The film adapts the Reze Arc from Tatsuki Fujimoto’s original manga, one of the most talked-about parts of early Chainsaw Man. If you know, you know — this is where the series really leans into that painful mix of romance, violence, comedy, and “bro, why is Denji’s life like this?” energy.

Part of Crunchyroll’s Ani-May lineup

The streaming release is tied to Crunchyroll’s month-long “Ani-May” event. The campaign also includes the 10th Crunchyroll Anime Awards, which will take place on May 23.

For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, this timing is pretty nice. April 30 puts the movie right at the start of a stacked anime month, and it gives fans a proper chance to catch up before the Anime Awards hype kicks in. Not everyone here gets the same theatrical window or convenient showtimes, so a Crunchyroll release matters — especially for fans outside major cinema-heavy areas.

A big theatrical run before streaming

Before landing on Crunchyroll, Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc had a major cinema push. Sony Pictures Entertainment picked up the film’s worldwide theatrical rights.

In the United States, the movie opened on October 24, a few days earlier than its original October 29 date. Crunchyroll members also got early screenings on October 22, and there were RealD 3D showings as well. The film then opened in the United Kingdom on October 29.

Globally, the rollout started even earlier, with screenings in more than 80 countries from September 24.

Sony Pictures Entertainment later released the film digitally on December 9, giving fans another way to watch before this Crunchyroll streaming drop.

Strong start in Japan

The movie first opened in Japan on September 19, and it did not come in quietly. It debuted at No. 1 during its opening weekend, knocking Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle – Akaza Sairai off the top spot after that film had dominated the Japanese box office for nine straight weeks.

That is not a small flex. Demon Slayer is basically box office final boss status, so for Chainsaw Man to take over the top spot says a lot about how strong the fanbase is.

During its opening weekend in Japan, Reze Arc sold 807,000 tickets and earned 1,251,178,500 yen, which is around US$8.46 million.

Why SEA fans should care

Chainsaw Man has always hit differently because it is not your standard shonen power fantasy. Denji is not chasing some noble dream — he just wants basic happiness, food, affection, and a life that does not constantly punch him in the face. That grounded chaos is a big reason the series blew up with younger anime fans across Malaysia and SEA.

The Reze Arc is also one of the manga’s most cinematic storylines, so a movie format makes sense. For fans who only watched the first TV season, this streaming release is likely the easiest way to continue the story without hunting down old screenings or digital copies.

April 30, lock it in. If you are a Chainsaw Man fan, this one is not just “background anime while makan” material — this is the arc people will be talking about again once it hits streaming.
