Chainsaw Man Stage Play Replaces Denji Actor Ahead of Reze Arc Run

Chainsaw Man fans, take note: Denji’s next live-action outing is still happening, but the production has made a major cast change before showtime.

The upcoming Japanese stage adaptation, Chainsaw Man: The Stage – Reze Arc, will no longer feature Yutaka Nakasone as Denji. According to an official update from the production, Nakasone has withdrawn because of health issues that require him to take time off and rest.

Instead of delaying the show, the production will move forward with Taisei Nakamoto taking over the role for all performances.

Denji gets recast, but the show goes on

For fans who follow anime stage plays, this is a pretty big switch. Denji is not exactly a background role, bro. He is the whole emotional and chaotic centre of Chainsaw Man — hungry, desperate, funny, violent, and somehow still painfully human under all the devil madness.

The official statement apologised to fans who were looking forward to seeing Nakasone in the part, while confirming that Nakamoto will perform as Denji across the full run. So, at least for now, the Reze Arc stage production is not being postponed or cancelled.

That matters especially for international fans who may have already planned Japan trips around the show. Malaysian and SEA anime fans are no strangers to flying out for concerts, stage events, cafes, exhibitions, and limited-time anime experiences. A cast change like this may not affect the story itself, but it definitely changes the version of the show fans will be seeing.

Why the Reze Arc still has everyone locked in

The timing is also interesting because Chainsaw Man’s Reze Arc has been having a huge moment. Chainsaw Man The Movie: The Reze Arc was one of 2025’s biggest anime films, with Studio MAPPA bringing Denji and Reze’s tragic romance to the big screen in properly bloody, stylish fashion.

For Malaysian fans, this arc hits especially hard because it is one of the clearest examples of what makes Chainsaw Man different from normal shonen. It is not just fights and power-ups. It is messy feelings, loneliness, bad decisions, sudden violence, and that very Fujimoto-style emotional whiplash where you laugh first, then kena punched in the heart five minutes later.

That is why the stage version is such a curiosity. Anime-to-stage adaptations can be hit or miss, but Chainsaw Man has the kind of physical energy that could be wild live — if the direction, action choreography, and performances land properly.

The anime future is still a bit mysterious

On the anime side, Chainsaw Man is not done either. After the success of the Reze Arc film, MAPPA confirmed that the Assassins Arc will be the next chapter for the adaptation.

The big question now is format. Will Assassins Arc become another movie, or will it finally bring Chainsaw Man back as a full TV season? After season one and the Reze Arc film, fans are still waiting to see whether the franchise is settling into a cinema-first strategy or keeping the door open for a proper season two.

For SEA viewers, this affects more than just hype. A film release means waiting on local cinema distribution, regional release dates, censorship questions, and streaming availability later. A TV season is usually easier to follow week by week, especially for fans in Malaysia who discuss episodes instantly on TikTok, X, Discord, and anime Facebook groups.

Manga readers already know there is plenty left

The source also notes that Tatsuki Fujimoto released the final chapter of the Chainsaw Man manga earlier this year, giving Denji’s story a fairly definitive ending in the second part of the series.

But anime-only fans still have a lot of material ahead if the adaptation keeps following the manga. The first season and Reze Arc already delivered some ridiculous fights, but the later Chainsaw Man arcs push the chaos, horror, and emotional damage even further.

So yes, the Denji actor change is a serious update for the stage production, but it does not slow down the bigger Chainsaw Man machine. The anime, stage scene, and fandom conversation are all still very much alive — and Malaysian fans should keep an eye on how MAPPA handles the next arc.
