Spoiler warning for Demon Slayer manga and Infinity Castle
Demon Slayer is putting a little more spotlight on Kanao Tsuyuri, and honestly, about time lah.
After last year’s massive film success pushed the franchise even higher, Demon Slayer is now deep into its Infinity Castle movie trilogy plans. This arc is a big one: the anime is adapting the manga’s longest stretch of Upper Moon battles before the final clash with Muzan properly kicks off.
The first Infinity Castle film focuses on several major fights involving Akaza, Kaigaku, and Doma. Out of that group, Doma leaves one of the nastiest marks because he manages to overpower Shinobu Kocho. The movie ends with a painful cliffhanger, showing Kanao stepping into the picture as his next opponent.
To celebrate Kanao’s birthday on May 19, the official Demon Slayer anime account shared a new visual of her. It is not a battle-heavy poster, but a softer chibi-style birthday illustration: Kanao in a light outfit, holding a bouquet, with a mostly pink colour palette around her. Ufotable is also promoting birthday card-based merchandise through its official webshop.
Cute visual aside, the timing is very deliberate. Kanao has spent a lot of the story away from the loudest spotlight, especially compared to Tanjiro, Nezuko, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and the Hashira. But Infinity Castle Part 2 should push her into one of her most important moments in the entire series.
The Doma fight is not just another demon battle. The first film reveals more about Shinobu’s personal history and her motivation to defeat the Upper Rank Two demon who killed her sister, Kanae. But even with Shinobu’s speed, poison expertise, and Hashira-level skill, Doma is simply too dangerous. His Blood Demon Art lets him create and control ice at an absurd level, and inhaling it can wreck the lungs before a fighter even gets close.
That is the scary part for Kanao. She is talented, trained, and Shinobu’s Tsuguko, but Doma is the kind of opponent who punishes anyone trying to fight at close range. Shinobu was badly injured after one attack, and Kanao witnessed the horror of what happened next.
Before dying, Shinobu appears to send Kanao a final message through a hand sign. The meaning has not been revealed yet in the anime, but Doma notices something is off when Kanao refuses to rush in despite his taunts. That small moment could become a major tactical turning point.
For Malaysian and SEA fans, this is exactly why the next Infinity Castle movie matters. Demon Slayer is not just coasting on pretty animation and hype fights anymore; this part of the story gives quieter characters their payoff. Kanao’s battle with Doma should hit hard for fans who have followed the Butterfly Mansion crew from earlier seasons.
And since anime films have become proper cinema events around this region, especially for big names like Demon Slayer, expect Part 2 to be one of those releases where spoilers will be everywhere the moment it lands. If you are anime-only, tread carefully.
The big question now: how does Kanao even survive against Doma, let alone beat him? Infinity Castle Part 2 will reveal her plan — and according to the source material, she will not be facing him entirely alone.
