Netflix is getting ready to bring Dante back very soon. The platform has revealed a new trailer and key art for Season 2 of its animated Devil May Cry series, based on Capcom’s long-running stylish action game franchise.

The important date: Season 2 premieres on May 12.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, this is one of those anime-adjacent releases worth keeping on the radar, especially if you grew up with Dante’s sword-gun nonsense on PlayStation or discovered the franchise through Devil May Cry 5. Netflix being the home for the series also makes it easier for regional viewers to jump in without waiting for a niche Blu-ray release or hunting through random streaming platforms.

Season 1 arrived in April 2025 with eight episodes from Studio Mir, featuring key franchise names like Dante, Vergil, and Lady. It clearly found an audience fast too. According to Anime News Network, the first season debuted at No. 4 on Netflix’s global Top 10 list, pulling 5.3 million views in its first three days. It also entered the Top 10 in 87 countries, which is a pretty strong signal that Capcom’s demon-hunting chaos still has global pull.

That early performance matters because game-to-animation adaptations can be very hit or miss. But Devil May Cry has the right ingredients for streaming: flashy combat, gothic demon vibes, iconic character designs, and a lead who basically runs on one-liners, pizza, and absolute confidence. It is the kind of franchise that can work well for both anime fans and gamers who normally do not keep up with seasonal shows.

The English dub has Johnny Yong Bosch voicing Dante. The wider English cast includes Scout Taylor-Compton as Mary, Hoon Lee as White Rabbit, Kevin Conroy as VP Baines in a posthumous role, and Chris Coppola as Enzo.

The animated series has been a long time coming. Adi Shankar announced in November 2018 that he had acquired the series and described it as joining Castlevania in what he called the “bootleg multiverse.” The team had also been planning multiple seasons since 2021, so Season 2 is not a random surprise continuation — this was clearly built with a longer runway in mind.

Of course, this is not Dante’s first trip into anime. Devil May Cry previously received a 12-episode TV anime from Madhouse back in 2007. That version was released on home video by ADV Films and later Funimation, while Crunchyroll began streaming it in June 2017.

On the gaming side, the latest mainline title, Devil May Cry 5, launched in March 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, before getting a Special Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2020. The franchise has also expanded into novels, manga, and stage plays, including Devil May Cry: The Live Hacker, which ran in Tokyo in March 2019.

So yeah, if you are a SEA fan who likes stylish action, demon-hunting drama, or just wants more video game adaptations that do not feel like homework, Season 2 is probably worth adding to your May watchlist.
