Devil May Cry Season 2 Trailer Teases Vergil, Arius and Mundus for Netflix Return

Netflix’s Devil May Cry anime is coming back soon, and the new Season 2 trailer is basically telling fans: okay bro, now the real family drama begins.

After introducing Dante properly in Season 1, Netflix’s animated take on Capcom’s demon-slaying franchise returns on May 12. The first season ended with a clear tease that Dante’s twin brother Vergil would become a much bigger part of the story, and this latest trailer doubles down hard on that direction.

For Malaysian and SEA fans who grew up with Devil May Cry on PlayStation, cyber cafes, YouTube combo videos, or just hearing people spam “jackpot” like it was a personality trait, this is the part where the Netflix series starts tapping into the franchise’s most iconic material.

Season 2 looks like Dante vs Vergil, but not only that

The main hook this time is still the messy bond between Dante and Vergil. Across the games, Dante usually fights to protect the human world, while Vergil is obsessed with strength, power and proving he is above everyone else. It is the classic sibling rivalry, but with demons, swords and extremely stylish coats.

Netflix’s Season 2 appears to be building around that same emotional core. Dante is not just fighting another random monster-of-the-week threat. He is being pushed to face someone who reflects him, challenges him, and also reminds him of the family trauma that shaped both brothers.

That is good news because Devil May Cry is at its best when it balances ridiculous action with that sad, dramatic Sparda family nonsense. The games are flashy, yes, but the reason fans still care about Dante and Vergil decades later is because their conflict actually has weight.

Classic villains are entering the Netflix version

The trailer also gives fans a look at Arius, who appears to be taking over villain duties after Season 1’s White Rabbit. In the games, Arius was the main antagonist of Devil May Cry 2, where he ran the shady corporation Uroboros.

Arius was already hinted at during the first season’s final episode, so his bigger role here is not completely random. What is more interesting is that the trailer also shows Mundus, the major villain from the original Devil May Cry game.

That potentially means Dante and Vergil may have more than one major enemy to deal with in Season 2. For lore fans, that is spicy. Mundus is not just another demon boss; he is tied deeply to the franchise’s foundation and the wider conflict involving Sparda’s bloodline.

Why SEA fans should keep an eye on this

Netflix has been finding real success with animated adaptations of game properties, and producer Adi Shankar has become one of the key names attached to that lane. Devil May Cry Season 1 was not a straight one-to-one adaptation of the games, but it clearly respected the source material with plenty of Capcom references and easter eggs.

One fun example from the first season: Dante even mentioned a mission in Resident Evil’s Raccoon City, which is the kind of Capcom crossover nod fans love to catch.

For SEA audiences, this matters because game-to-anime adaptations are no longer niche background noise. These shows are becoming proper gateway titles. Someone who never touched the older Devil May Cry games might watch the anime first, then go back and check out Dante’s game history. And for longtime fans in Malaysia, it is nice to see a Capcom classic getting treated like more than just nostalgia bait.

If Season 2 can land the Dante-Vergil rivalry while giving Arius and Mundus enough presence, Netflix may have a proper action-anime hit on its hands. No need to overhype yet, but the pieces are definitely lining up.

Devil May Cry Season 2 premieres on Netflix on May 12.
