If you’re the kind of Atlus fan who loves digging up weird old side stories, this one is pretty interesting. Digital Devil Saga Avatar Tuner: A’s Test Server has officially joined the G-Mode Archives+ lineup on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam.

The game is out now at US$15.99, with a limited launch discount dropping it to US$14.39 until April 30, 2026. For Malaysian players, that works out to roughly around RM75 normally and about RM67 on sale, depending on exchange rate.

The catch, and it’s a big one, is that this re-release does not include any official localisation. Just like other G-Mode Archives releases, it is only available in Japanese.

That means this is more of a niche pick for hardcore fans, collectors, or players who already know enough Japanese to work through menus and story text. For most players in Malaysia and the wider SEA region, that language barrier is probably going to be the main thing stopping an impulse buy.

What kind of game is it?

This spin-off originally debuted on mobile phones in Japan, and it puts players back in control of Serph, the Embryon leader from the first Digital Devil Saga. He can still transform into Varuna, and this story has him trapped in the Tower of Karma, dealing with amnesia and pushing upward in search of answers.

Gameplay-wise, it stays close to what Shin Megami Tensei fans would expect. It’s a turn-based JRPG that uses the familiar Press Turn System, so hitting enemy weaknesses matters a lot. Serph can also fight alongside up to two allies in the party at once.

G-Mode also highlighted a 3x EXP Boost option, which should help smooth out grinding. That’s honestly a nice addition for a re-release like this, especially for older RPGs that can feel a bit rough by modern standards.

Why this matters for SEA fans

Even if you’re not planning to buy it immediately, releases like this are still worth watching. A lot of older Japanese mobile games basically disappeared once their original platforms died off, so seeing one preserved on modern systems is a win, especially for RPG history.

For Atlus fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is also the kind of deep-cut release that hits differently if you grew up loving the PS2-era Shin Megami Tensei games. Digital Devil Saga never had the same mainstream pull here as Persona, but it definitely has its cult following. So getting access to an obscure spin-off on current hardware is still quite syok, even if the Japanese-only status makes it harder to recommend to everyone.

Right now, this feels less like a broad must-play release and more like a curiosity for dedicated fans, preservation nerds, and people who want to explore Atlus history beyond the usual big names.
