Square Enix is kicking off the first crossover event for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, and the pick is a pretty nostalgic one: Final Fantasy Record Keeper.
The event is scheduled to roll out worldwide on May 19, 2026 for the Android and iOS mobile game. But before anyone starts dreaming about a surprise character drop, temper expectations sikit — this crossover is not adding new fighters to the roster.
Instead, the collaboration is focused on Abilities.
What the Record Keeper crossover includes
When the event goes live, players can expect a special banner featuring four Abilities connected to Final Fantasy Record Keeper. These Abilities will use artwork from Record Keeper, giving the event more of a tribute feel rather than a full character-driven collab.
Square Enix has not yet confirmed whether these will all be high-rarity UR skills, or whether SR and R Abilities will also be part of the banner. So for now, players should probably wait for the full banner details before dumping resources.
The event will also hand out free tickets through login bonuses and quest completion. That part matters for Malaysia and SEA players especially, because mobile gacha spending can get painful fast once you start converting packs into RM. Free pulls are always worth grabbing, even if you are not planning to whale.
On top of the banner, the crossover will include themed icons and wallpapers to earn, plus new songs inspired by the Final Fantasy Record Keeper soundtrack.
No new character this time
The slightly weird part is that Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is skipping a new character release for this crossover. For a gacha-style mobile game with both Character and Ability banners, that is definitely noticeable.
The game has been adding familiar Final Fantasy names since launch. After its March 2026 debut, Onion Knight from Final Fantasy III and Iroha from Final Fantasy XI joined the lineup. April 2026 then brought in Firion from Final Fantasy II, Balthier from Final Fantasy XII, Rikku from Final Fantasy X, and Clive from Final Fantasy XVI.
With this Record Keeper event focused only on Abilities, it means Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy will go through its second full month of service without another new character joining the game.
That could be a breather for players who are trying to manage their pulls. But for fans waiting on a favourite hero or villain, this update might feel a bit light. Dissidia as a brand is built on the fun of smashing together Final Fantasy characters from different eras, so a crossover without a new face does feel macam half-step.
Why SEA fans should care
For long-time mobile RPG fans in Malaysia and SEA, Final Fantasy Record Keeper has a different kind of weight. The global version is already shut down, while the game continues to run in Japan. So this crossover is not exactly a revival, but it does bring some of Record Keeper’s identity back into a currently active global Final Fantasy mobile title.
If you miss Record Keeper’s pixel-era celebration of Final Fantasy history, the art, music, icons, and wallpapers may be the main reason to log in. If you are more gameplay-focused, the real question is whether those four Abilities are actually strong enough to matter.
Either way, this is the first crossover for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy, so it sets the tone for how Square Enix may handle future collabs. Hopefully the next one goes bigger — because bro, a Dissidia game without new crossover characters can only tease fans for so long.
Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy is available now on Android and Apple iOS devices. The Final Fantasy Record Keeper crossover begins worldwide on May 19, 2026.
