Square Enix is finally ready to talk properly about what comes next for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. The mobile title will get its first official live broadcast in Japan on May 23, 2026, with the YouTube waiting room already up.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, the timing is actually pretty friendly. The stream begins at 3pm MYT / 4pm JST, so no need to destroy your sleep schedule like it’s a Nintendo Direct at 5am. The actual update segment is expected later at 5pm MYT / 6pm JST, after the broadcast opens with the final round of a beta test tournament.

That tournament portion matters if you’re already deep into the game’s competitive side, but the bigger news for most players will come two hours into the show. Producer Naoya Matsumoto is confirmed to appear during the update section, where he’ll discuss upcoming plans for Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy.

What could be shown?

Right now, the only confirmed upcoming event is a Final Fantasy Record Keeper collaboration scheduled for the end of May 2026. Based on current details, that event is focused on adding new Abilities, not new characters.

That’s why this stream has fans watching closely. The most recent character additions were Rikku from Final Fantasy X and Clive from Final Fantasy XVI, so players are naturally wondering who might be next. Square Enix hasn’t confirmed a new fighter reveal for the broadcast, but this feels like the right place to at least tease the roadmap.

For SEA players, character drops are usually the real hype trigger. New units can shift team builds, resource planning, and the whole “should I save or pull now?” dilemma that mobile game players know too well. If you’re free-to-play or low-spend in Malaysia, roadmap clarity is important because premium currency decisions can hurt if a favourite character suddenly appears right after you emptied everything.

Balance and bug fixes may be just as important

Beyond new content, the stream could also address some gameplay issues. One known problem involves Bursts and Abilities activating during boss fights in ways that have been causing trouble lately.

That might sound technical, but in a mobile action/RPG-style game, these systems are basically the heartbeat of combat. If key actions don’t behave properly during boss encounters, it affects everything from event farming to ranked play and challenge clears. For players grinding on mobile data during commute or squeezing runs between classes, unstable mechanics are extra annoying.

So yes, new characters would be the flashy headline. But honestly, solid fixes and cleaner combat behaviour might matter more for the game’s long-term health. A live service Final Fantasy game needs trust. If players feel the systems are inconsistent, they’ll hesitate before investing time or money.

Why this stream matters

Dissidia has always had a special hook: Final Fantasy heroes and villains crossing over in one big arena. Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy bringing that idea to mobile means it has huge potential across SEA, where mobile gaming is the default platform for many players.

The May 23 broadcast should give us a clearer picture of whether Square Enix is treating this as a serious long-term title or just another event-driven mobile release. We’ll be watching for three things: new Abilities, fixes for current issues, and any hint of future character plans.

If you’re playing from Malaysia, mark the update segment for 5pm MYT. That’s the one to watch.
