Final Fantasy XIV fans, your next Japan trip might need one very specific stop: Odaiba.
Tyffon has announced a new XR attraction based on Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, and yes, the pitch is exactly as fun as it sounds — Chocobo racing, but in VR-style immersive form. The attraction is currently planned to launch in Japan in October 2026.
According to Siliconera, this will be the first attempt to bring the world of Final Fantasy XIV into a VR experience. Instead of simply watching Chocobos sprint around a track, players will take part in the race themselves through Tyffon’s XR technology.
Details are still quite light right now. Tyffon says the attraction will combine Square Enix’s IP with its own tech to create something visitors can see, hear, and feel. The announcement did not fully explain the setup, so we do not yet know whether that means motion seats, haptic feedback, wind effects, surround audio, or other theme park-style tricks. But the wording definitely suggests it will be more than just wearing a headset and pressing buttons.
The attraction will be hosted at Tyffon’s XR theme park, Tyffonium. At the moment, Tyffonium only has one location, which is in Odaiba, Japan. That already makes it a pretty natural fit for tourists, since Odaiba is one of Tokyo’s more popular entertainment areas.
For Malaysian and SEA Final Fantasy fans, this is the kind of niche Japan-only experience that could become a side quest during a Tokyo holiday. We already see plenty of local fans planning trips around anime cafes, concerts, collab stores, and game events. A proper FFXIV XR attraction adds another reason to keep Odaiba on the itinerary, especially if you are the type who has spent way too many hours in Eorzea and still somehow has energy to race birds in real life.
Pricing for Tyffonium attractions currently starts from 2,300 yen, which is around the budget of a premium arcade or themed experience rather than a full-day theme park ticket. Each attraction listed on Tyffonium’s site usually runs for about 20 to 30 minutes, and reservations are required. So if this Chocobo racing experience follows that model, it sounds like something fans could slot into a Tokyo day trip without destroying the whole schedule.
The bigger question is whether this stays Japan-only. Tyffon has plans to expand with more locations both inside Japan and internationally, though no specific overseas launch for the Final Fantasy XIV attraction has been confirmed. If the concept works, it would be very cool to see something like this eventually travel to major SEA entertainment hubs. Singapore, Bangkok, or even Kuala Lumpur would make sense if XR attractions keep growing in the region.
Final Fantasy XIV is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. At the time of Siliconera’s report, patch 7.5 Part 1 was scheduled for April 28, 2026.
For now, the Chocobo racing XR attraction is locked for Japan in October 2026. Not essential content for your Warrior of Light journey, sure — but bro, racing a Chocobo in immersive XR? That is absolutely the kind of extra fan experience that makes a Japan trip feel legendary.
