Frieren Meets Detective Conan in New Crossover While Season 3 Wait Begins

Frieren fans, we may be waiting a long time for Season 3, but at least the franchise is not going quiet.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has returned with a new crossover featuring Detective Conan, bringing together two of Shogakukan’s biggest manga names for a small but very fun celebration. The crossover was released around May 4, which marks Conan Edogawa’s birthday, making it a nice little gift for fans of both series.

For anime fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is the kind of collab that hits a very specific sweet spot. Frieren is the newer modern fantasy darling, the kind of series that exploded after its anime adaptation and suddenly became everyone’s “please watch this bro, trust me” recommendation. Detective Conan, meanwhile, is old-school legend status. Many Malaysian fans grew up seeing Conan on TV, in manga shops, or through movie releases. Putting both together feels like a meeting between two generations of anime fandom.

Why this crossover matters

This is not the first time Frieren and Detective Conan have crossed paths. The two Shogakukan hits have already shown support for each other before, including special artwork from Detective Conan creator Gosho Aoyama when Frieren’s second season premiered.

That’s part of why this latest crossover feels more like an ongoing friendship than a random marketing stunt. Both series have very different vibes, but they oddly make sense beside each other. Frieren is quiet, reflective, and fantasy-driven. Conan is mystery-heavy, fast-thinking, and built around solving cases. Put Frieren and Conan in the same room and you can already imagine the comedy: one ancient mage being super chill while a child detective tries to understand what kind of monster case he has walked into.

No full anime crossover has been announced, so don’t start expecting a Frieren x Conan special episode just yet. For now, this is a celebratory crossover drop, but the idea definitely has potential.

Season 3 is already in the works

The bigger news for Frieren fans is still Season 3. The anime has officially been announced as in production, with a planned October 2027 release window. A specific premiere date has not been revealed yet.

Details are still light. The returning staff and cast have not been fully confirmed at the time of writing, though the main voice cast is expected to continue in their roles. What has been teased is the next major story focus: The Golden Land arc from the original manga.

That arc was already hinted at during the final episodes of Season 2, so anime-only fans have a rough idea that the story is moving toward something bigger and more dangerous. Season 2 may have had fewer episodes than Season 1, but the response from fans was still strong, with many viewers treating it as another reminder that Frieren is one of the cleanest fantasy anime productions in recent years.

What SEA fans should watch for

For Malaysian anime fans, the long wait until 2027 means there is plenty of time to catch up properly. Frieren is currently available to stream on Crunchyroll, so if you somehow missed the hype, now is a good time to fix that before the Golden Land arc arrives.

The crossover also shows how strong Frieren’s brand has become. When a newer fantasy series is getting regular collaborations, video game appearances, and nods from major manga creators, that’s not small hype anymore. That’s a franchise settling into long-term anime culture.

So yes, this Detective Conan crossover is a small update, not a massive announcement. But for fans waiting for Season 3, it is a nice reminder that Frieren is still very much alive between seasons.
