Banjō Saitō’s Genkai! Oshikatsu Densetsu Yoshio is heading into its final stretch, and honestly, the premise still sounds like the kind of chaotic manga that would hit nicely with the ACG crowd here.
According to details revealed in the manga’s seventh compiled volume on April 10, the series will end with its eighth volume, which is scheduled for September.
For those who haven’t checked it out, Genkai! Oshikatsu Densetsu Yoshio follows Yoshio Hitoshi, a delinquent feared as the strongest member of the so-called “Four Kings” of Nanshu — basically the city’s most troublesome group of brawlers. But behind the scary reputation, Yoshio has a very different side: he is secretly an otaku.
More specifically, he is a fan of Haruma, a character from the magical girl anime Merry Nature. Yoshio just wants to support his favourite anime and character like any dedicated fan, but because he is still wrapped up in Nanshu’s delinquent scene, trouble keeps finding him.
That contrast is the whole hook: one side street-fight legend, one side hardcore oshi supporter. Very “don’t judge a bro by his jacket” energy.
Saitō launched the manga on Shogakukan’s Sunday Webry website in October 2023, before the series also began running in Sunday GX magazine in November 2023. With the eighth volume now confirmed as the endpoint, the manga is shaping up to be a fairly compact read instead of one of those series that stretches forever.
For Malaysian and SEA manga fans, this is the kind of title that sits in a fun space between comedy, fandom culture, and delinquent manga. The “oshikatsu” angle — supporting your favourite character, buying merch, showing up for the fandom — is very relatable if you’ve ever seen how intense anime fans can get at local events, cosplay gatherings, or merch booths in KL, Penang, Singapore, Jakarta, and Bangkok.
We’re not talking about a giant shonen franchise here, but smaller titles like this are exactly where manga can get weird in the best way. A tough-guy character secretly being a magical girl anime fan? That’s a strong comedy engine, especially for readers who enjoy gap-moe setups and characters trying very badly to protect their image.
The report also notes that Manga Mavericks recently licensed another Saitō work, Vegetable Sandwich, with its first volume planned for release in September 2026. That manga was published in Japan by Two Virgins across two volumes.
As for Genkai! Oshikatsu Densetsu Yoshio, the key thing to know is simple: if you’ve been following Yoshio’s ridiculous double life, the finish line is now in sight. And if you haven’t started, an eight-volume run is honestly a nice, low-commitment binge if the series becomes easier to access for English-reading fans later.
