Glasses With a Chance of Delinquent Romance Is Getting a TV Anime

Kodansha has confirmed that Naruki’s manga Glasses With a Chance of Delinquent — known in Japanese as Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun — is getting a television anime adaptation.

For now, this is still very much an early announcement. Kodansha has not shared the studio, cast, staff, release window, or broadcast plans yet. What we do have is the green light itself, plus a celebratory illustration drawn by Naruki to mark the anime news.

For romance anime fans in Malaysia and SEA, this is one to keep on the radar because it hits a very familiar shoujo-romcom flavour: sweet school life, hidden past, awkward tension, and one boy who is maybe not as harmless as he looks.

What Is Glasses With a Chance of Delinquent About?

The story follows Momose, a girl who just wants a calm, drama-free high school life. No gangs, no fights, no scary boys hanging around the corridor — just peaceful student vibes.

Then she meets Ichikura, a quiet black-haired boy with glasses who seems like the normal, gentle type. Very safe. Very harmless. Very “don’t worry, he probably helps teachers carry books.”

Except, plot twist: Ichikura used to be a notorious delinquent back in junior high.

He insists he has changed, but his temper still comes out fast when trouble appears. That leaves Momose stuck with the big question: is Ichikura really trying to become a better person, or is the old yankee side still waiting to jump out?

It is a fun hook because the romance is not just “cute boy with glasses.” It is “cute boy with glasses who may or may not throw hands if pushed.” For fans who enjoy soft romance with a slightly chaotic male lead, this sounds like easy watchlist material.

Manga Status And English Release

Naruki launched the manga in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Friend magazine in January 2021. The series has already built up a decent catalogue, with Kodansha shipping the 10th compiled volume in December 2025. The 11th volume is scheduled to ship on May 13.

English readers are also not left behind. Kodansha’s K MANGA service is releasing the series digitally in English, including simultaneous digital availability. Meanwhile, Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing the manga in English physically, with its fifth volume released on January 13.

That matters for Malaysian fans because anime announcements like this often push people to check out the manga first. If the anime later gets picked up by a regional streaming platform, expect the manga to gain more attention among SEA romance anime fans too.

Why SEA Fans Should Care

School romance anime still travels well here, especially when it has a clean, bingeable premise. The delinquent-with-a-soft-side trope is old-school, yes, but it still works when the chemistry is strong. Add the “glasses boy hiding a messy past” angle and you have a series that could easily find an audience among fans of shoujo, romcoms, and comfort-watch anime.

The only thing to keep in mind: there are no anime production details yet. No release season, no streaming information, no voice cast. So don’t start counting down just yet.

But as an announcement, this is a solid one. Glasses With a Chance of Delinquent has the kind of simple, character-driven setup that can become very charming if the anime lands the comedy and emotional beats properly.
