The Go for It, Nakamura! anime is bringing in a new voice for its next school-life twist, and BL rom-com fans should keep an eye on this one.
The anime staff revealed that Shōya Chiba has joined the cast as Arandō Tamura, a director and screenwriter in Hoshimi High School’s drama and film club. Tamura is set to appear in the anime’s seventh episode, which airs on Wednesday.
For viewers in Malaysia and SEA who enjoy softer, awkward high school romance anime, this is the kind of casting update that can quietly matter. Go for It, Nakamura! is not built like a loud battle shonen with weekly power-scaling debates. Its charm comes from timing, nervous energy, and whether the anime can sell Nakamura’s painfully relatable crush without turning it into flat comedy. A character connected to drama and filmmaking could add a fun new angle to the school setting, especially if episode 7 leans into performance, club activities, or messy teenage self-expression.
The series adapts Syundei’s boys-love manga Go for It, Nakamura!, also known in Japanese as Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!. The core setup is simple but very cute: Nakamura is a shy boy who falls for his classmate Hirose at first sight. The problem? They have not even properly met yet, and Nakamura is exactly the type of nervous klutz who might sabotage himself before anything begins.
That premise is why the anime has appeal beyond hardcore BL readers. If you have ever had a school crush and overthought every tiny interaction, this is very much that energy. For Malaysian anime fans used to seasonal watchlists packed with fantasy, isekai, and action titles, Go for It, Nakamura! sits nicely as a lighter weekly watch — the kind of show you put on when you want romance, comedy, and second-hand embarrassment in one package.
Behind the scenes, the anime is being directed by Aoi Umeki, best known for Pop Team Epic. Umeki is also co-writing the scripts and handling character designs. Drive is animating the series, with Naoki Yoshibe, who has worked as an animation director on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, serving as assistant director.
The script side is also being handled by Yasuko Aoki of Studio Monado, who is both co-writing and supervising the series scripts. Aoki’s previous credits include Phantom of the Idol and Tying the Knot With an Amagami Sister. Music is composed by Ayana Tsujita, known for The Demon Prince of Momochi House.
The opening theme, “Shunpatsuteki ni Koi Shiyō” or “Let’s Fall in Love Instantly,” is performed by Yasuyuki Okamura and Kento Nakajima. Earlier promotional material for the anime also featured Senri Oe’s “Glory Days” and Princess Princess’ “Sekai de Ichiban Atsui Natsu”.
The original manga began as a short in Akaneshinsha’s boys-love anthology Opera in December 2014, before continuing with new chapters from June 2015. Akaneshinsha released one compiled volume in May 2017. Syundei later launched the sequel Go for It Again, Nakamura! in June 2017, with its volume published in August 2021. Seven Seas licensed both the original manga and the sequel in English, which is useful for SEA readers who prefer collecting official English releases.
One heavier note around the series: Syundei recently deleted their X account after describing alleged online harassment related to their illustrations and character depictions in the manga. It is a reminder that fandom discussion can get ugly fast, especially around BL and character portrayal. Hopefully, the anime keeps the focus where it should be — on the work, the characters, and the fans who genuinely love this awkward little romance.
