Haikyu!! fans, circle August 19 on your calendar — not because the new movie finally has a confirmed date, but because this is probably the next big checkpoint for updates.

According to ComicBook Anime, the franchise is preparing a special YouTube broadcast for Haikyu Day, the annual celebration of Haruichi Furudate’s volleyball series. The stream is set for TOHO’s YouTube channel at 20:19 JST on August 19, 2026, and reliable Shonen Jump update account @WSJ_manga has said the broadcast will include news across the anime, manga, events, and more.

That matters because the next Haikyu!! anime film, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, is already scheduled for 2027 — but still does not have an exact release date. Fans have been waiting for something more concrete, whether that means a full trailer, a release window, or extra production details.

Where the anime currently stands

Haikyu!! began as a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2012 and ended in 2020. The anime has not finished adapting the whole story yet. Season 4 aired in two parts in 2020, then the franchise returned with the sequel movie Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle in 2024.

That film covered the long-awaited Karasuno vs Nekoma showdown. The next chapter pushes Karasuno into another brutal stage of the Spring High National Tournament: the quarterfinal match against Kamomedai High.

Why Kamomedai is a big deal

Kamomedai is not just another opponent for Karasuno to clear before the ending. The team is known for dangerous serving, strong blocking, and the kind of mental toughness that makes rallies feel suffocating. Basically, they are built to punish mistakes.

The headline clash is Shoyo Hinata meeting Kōrai Hoshiumi, Kamomedai’s ace. Hoshiumi had already taken notice of Hinata’s raw ability and court presence, especially because Hinata stands out despite being the shortest player on his team. That sparked a one-sided rivalry from Hoshiumi’s side, setting up a match that feels personal even before the first serve.

And it is not only Hoshiumi. The source notes that Kamomedai’s players each bring their own special strengths, which is exactly the type of opponent Haikyu!! loves: a team that forces Karasuno to evolve mid-match or get crushed.

Why SEA fans should care

Analysis: For Malaysia and SEA anime fans, this broadcast is worth watching because Haikyu!! is the kind of series that still cuts through the seasonal noise. Sports anime can be niche, but Haikyu!! has stayed relevant because it sells effort, rivalry, and team chemistry without needing superpowers. If the August stream gives us a proper trailer or clearer timing for the 2027 film, expect the fandom conversation to wake up fast.

There is also the bigger question: how will the anime finish the manga? After the Spring Nationals, the story jumps forward into the Final Arc, following Hinata years after high school as he continues volleyball and meets old friends and rivals again on the professional court. The source points out that the final arc is 32 chapters, which could potentially fit into a short 10-12 episode season or another feature film. That is speculation for now, and the franchise is not expected to reveal final arc plans before adapting the Kamomedai match.

For now, the smart move is simple: watch Haikyu Day. If TOHO is ready to show more, this is the stage.
