Hiromu Arakawa fans, this is the kind of update that should make you sit up a bit.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm, the supernatural action anime currently running on Crunchyroll, may still have a long road ahead — but its creator already knows where the story is going. Arakawa, the legendary manga creator behind Fullmetal Alchemist, recently confirmed in a Square Enix behind-the-scenes video that the ending for the manga has already been decided.
Her approach sounds very Arakawa: she has the destination in mind, plus the major story “stations” along the way. From there, the work is about connecting those points properly. In other words, this is not a series being dragged blindly from arc to arc until sales slow down. There is a roadmap.
That matters because Arakawa’s reputation is built on payoff. Fullmetal Alchemist is still one of the gold-standard shonen stories because it actually landed its ending — no messy collapse, no endless padding, no “wait, that’s it?” energy. So when she says Daemons of the Shadow Realm already has its final shape, fans have a good reason to trust the process.
For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, this is also worth watching because the series is getting pushed beyond just one platform. The anime began as one of the big Spring 2026 titles on Crunchyroll and is continuing across two cours. It also premiered on Hulu on 4 July 2026, with Netflix receiving it on the same day, giving the series a wider audience while it is still ongoing.
Hulu is not exactly the main anime app for most of us here, but Crunchyroll and Netflix definitely are part of the local anime-watching ecosystem. A title like this getting broader streaming exposure means more chances for Malaysian fans to discover it without needing to rely only on seasonal anime chatter from Japan or the US.
The story itself has a strong hook. Daemons of the Shadow Realm follows twin siblings Yuru and Asa. Yuru lives as a hunter, while Asa is kept confined by villagers because of a special role she is expected to fulfil. Their lives seem fixed from birth, until an armed attack on the village destroys everything Yuru thought he understood.
After the adults in the village are killed, Yuru discovers the truth about Asa and the deception surrounding his life. That tragedy launches him into a larger conflict tied to his birthright and the threat of destruction facing the world.
That setup is very much in Arakawa’s lane: siblings, secrets, social systems built on ugly truths, and a fantasy world where personal trauma is tied to something much bigger. If you liked how Fullmetal Alchemist balanced action with moral weight, this is probably one to keep on your radar.
The important thing to remember is that the manga is not near its finale yet. Arakawa confirming the ending does not mean the story is wrapping up soon. It simply means the author knows the destination, and for a long-running action fantasy, that is a very healthy sign.
For now, Daemons of the Shadow Realm looks like one of those series that could grow steadily instead of exploding for one season and disappearing. If the anime keeps introducing more viewers to the manga, especially across Netflix and Crunchyroll audiences, don’t be surprised if this becomes a bigger conversation in SEA anime circles too.
