Hololive’s Holoearth Metaverse Is Shutting Down This June

Hololive fans, this one stings a bit. Cover has confirmed that Holoearth, its metaverse-style project connected to Hololive Vtubers, will officially shut down on June 28, 2026.

The platform was originally pitched as a digital space where fans could attend Hololive-related concerts, interact with performers, join events, and play games. Basically, it was Cover’s attempt to build a proper virtual hangout around the Hololive universe — not just livestreams and merch drops, but a whole online space for fans to gather.

Sales of premium currency have already been stopped immediately. Meanwhile, sales of user-created items and official premium items will end on June 3, 2026. Refunds are planned, but the process will only begin after the service shuts down, starting June 29, 2026.

What happens to HoloCoin and Creator Points?

Cover said refunds will apply to unused Premium HoloCoin and Creator Points, the currencies used inside Holoearth. However, there are some conditions. The refund will only cover unused balances, and the company noted that currency obtained right before the cut-off may not be eligible.

The refund application window is currently set for June 29 to September 30, 2026. Exact refund details have not been fully shared yet, so players who still have currency sitting in their account should keep an eye on the official Holoearth channels before the shutdown date.

For Malaysian and SEA fans, the important part is simple: if you ever topped up for Holoearth, don’t just uninstall and forget about it. Check your balance, watch for the refund instructions, and make sure you apply within the stated period. We all know how painful it is when digital currency just disappears because you missed the deadline.

A short life for a big Hololive experiment

Holoearth was first brought up by Cover in October 2021 as part of the broader Hololive Alternative idea, which imagined Hololive talents in different worlds and settings. The first beta arrived in November 2022, mainly testing chat features.

By April 2023, microtransactions were confirmed. Later, Holoearth was used for extra virtual event experiences around Hololive Super Expo 2024, giving fans a clearer look at how the platform could support big Hololive moments beyond regular streams.

The full 1.0 launch only happened in April 2025, which makes this shutdown feel especially sudden. The service will close just over a year after that milestone.

Project Lead Ikko Fukuda apologised in the official statement and suggested that the technology behind Holoearth could still be used again in the future. However, Cover did not give a specific reason for why the metaverse project is ending.

Why SEA Hololive fans should care

Hololive has a strong fanbase across Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines. Even if Holoearth was not the main way most fans engaged with Hololive, it represented something bigger: the dream of Vtuber fandom becoming more interactive, more event-like, and more game-adjacent.

For fans here, where big anime and gaming events are growing but still not always easy to access, virtual spaces like Holoearth had potential. Imagine SEA-friendly online concerts, fan meetups, themed mini-games, or watch party-style events without needing to fly to Japan. That was the exciting part.

So yes, the shutdown is disappointing. But it does not necessarily mean Cover is done experimenting with virtual experiences. The tech may return in another form later — hopefully one that is easier to sustain and more accessible for global fans.

For now, Holoearth remains available on Windows PC until June 28, 2026. Premium currency sales have already ended, item sales stop on June 3, and refunds open from June 29.
