Jirō Sugiura, the creator behind My Wife Has No Emotion, is moving into fresh manga territory with a new adaptation of his Kamibiki no Monarch series.
The new manga will launch in Shogakukan’s Shounen Sunday magazine on April 28. Sugiura is writing the story, while Rei Okiumi, known for Ubaumono, Ubawarerumono, is handling the artwork.
For readers who live on isekai, gacha banners, and “one more pull bro” energy, this one sounds very familiar in the best way. Kamibiki no Monarch, also known as The God Tier Pull Monarch, follows Takemoto, a man who gets sent to another world and brings along a very game-like advantage: the power to summon high-rank heroes through a hero lottery.
Basically, instead of just getting a sword and vibes, Takemoto enters fantasy survival mode with smartphone gacha cheat skills. If you’ve ever watched an isekai and thought, “What if the main character had SSR luck permanently enabled?”, this is probably the lane Sugiura is aiming for.
That setup should click pretty easily with Malaysian and SEA anime fans. Gacha culture is already part of the daily routine for plenty of players here, from Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail to mobile RPGs that dominate Discord chats and late-night mamak conversations. Turning that pull-for-power loop into an isekai survival story is not exactly new, but it is still a formula that can hit hard when the characters and comedy land properly.
Sugiura first launched Kamibiki no Monarch on pixiv in May 2023, and the series is still ongoing. This new magazine version gives the title a bigger platform, especially with Shounen Sunday attached. For a web-born series, that kind of jump usually means more visibility and a better chance of finding readers outside its original online niche.
Sugiura’s name will be the main hook for many fans because of My Wife Has No Emotion. That manga began in Kadokawa’s Comic Flapper magazine in 2019, with its eighth compiled volume shipping in Japan in September 2024. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the series in English and released volume eight in May 2025.
The series also received a TV anime adaptation, which premiered in July 2024 on Tokyo MX before airing on MBS and BS Asahi. So while Kamibiki no Monarch is a different flavour from the human-and-robot domestic drama of My Wife Has No Emotion, Sugiura already has international visibility, especially among readers who follow English manga releases.
One important bit of context: Sugiura announced in September 2024 that My Wife Has No Emotion would go on hiatus because stress in his personal life had made drawing more difficult. With Kamibiki no Monarch, he is taking the story role while Okiumi draws the manga, which makes this new project especially interesting to watch.
For SEA readers, the big question now is whether Kamibiki no Monarch can stand out in a very crowded isekai-gacha space. The premise is easy to understand, the gaming angle is strong, and the “hero lottery” hook feels instantly marketable. If the execution has enough personality beyond the cheat skill, this could become one of those titles Malaysian manga fans start recommending once chapters circulate more widely.
For now, mark April 28 if you follow new manga launches closely. Gacha-isekai fans, this one masuk watchlist dulu.
