The Shibuya Incident is not done hurting us yet, bro.
A new Jujutsu Kaisen stage play has been announced, and this one is tackling the early half of the fan-favourite — and honestly traumatising — Shibuya Incident arc. The production is titled Butai Jujutsu Kaisen -Shibuya Jihen Zenpen-, which translates roughly to Stage Jujutsu Kaisen -Shibuya Incident Part 1-.
The play is scheduled for two Japan runs later this year:
- Tokyo: November 14-23 at Shibuya LOVEZ
- Osaka: November 28-29 at Sky Theater MBS
That makes this the fifth stage play based on Gege Akutami’s monster-hit manga. The official stage play site also revealed the new key visual, returning cast members from earlier productions, new cast additions, and staff details.
Who’s working on it?
Kensaku Kobayashi is back in the director’s chair, which should be good news for fans who have been following the stage adaptations from the start. One interesting detail: Yūki Kubota, who plays Tōji Fushiguro, is also handling the script for this production.
That is quite a fun bit of casting-to-creative crossover, especially because Tōji’s role in the wider Jujutsu Kaisen story has become even more important after the anime’s Hidden Inventory arc.
Why this matters for Malaysia and SEA fans
For most Malaysian fans, this is not something we can casually catch after class or work — it is a Japan-only theatre run for now. But if you are planning a year-end Japan trip, the timing is actually pretty tempting. Tokyo in mid-November and Osaka at the end of the month are both strong anime tourism windows, and Shibuya is already a massive pilgrimage spot for JJK fans thanks to the arc itself.
No SEA performance or cinema screening has been announced from this source, so don’t get your hopes up too high yet. Still, stage plays are a big part of Japan’s 2.5D culture, and Jujutsu Kaisen getting deeper into Shibuya shows how strong the franchise still is beyond TV anime and manga volumes.
Quick Jujutsu Kaisen refresher
Gege Akutami launched Jujutsu Kaisen in Weekly Shonen Jump in March 2018, and the manga wrapped in September 2024. English readers can follow it through Viz Media, while Shueisha also offers the manga digitally via MANGA Plus.
The anime first exploded in October 2020 with a 24-episode first season. The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film followed in Japan in December 2021, before reaching North America with English subtitles and dub in March 2022.
Season 2 premiered in July 2023 and ran for two continuous cours. It adapted both Hidden Inventory / Premature Death and Shibuya Incident, with Shibuya taking up 18 episodes after starting at the end of August 2023.
More recently, the franchise continued with compilation films and Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3: The Culling Game Part 1, which premiered with a one-hour special on January 8 and ended with an extended 27-minute episode on March 26. A fourth season, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4: The Culling Game Part 2, is also on the way.
Basically, JJK is still moving hard across manga, anime, film, and now stage. Shibuya on stage sounds intense — if they nail the chaos and emotional damage, this one could be gila memorable.
