Just Like Mona Lisa is heading to television in 2027, with a fresh announcement bringing seven additional voice actors, more production credits, a new key visual and its first promotional video.

The anime adapts Tsumuji Yoshimura’s drama-romance manga, also known as Seibetsu "Mona Lisa" no Kimi e. The October 21 update also confirmed that singer-songwriter imase will perform the ending theme, “Mayoi wa Hikari.” You can hear a preview of the track in the new promo.

There is a year to put on the watchlist, then, but not a specific premiere date: the announcement gives 2027, without narrowing it to a month or anime season.

Seven more names join the voice cast

The newly announced performers include names credited in everything from Bocchi the Rock! to Dandadan. Here is the full additional cast list, alongside titles cited in the report:

  • Yoshino Aoyama — Bocchi the Rock!
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto — Sousou no Frieren
  • Daisuke Sakuma — Kill Ao
  • Chiharu — 22/7
  • Kakeru Hatano — Tamon-kun Ima Docchi!?
  • Haruna Mikawa — Ore dake Level Up na Ken
  • Shion Wakayama — Dandadan

The report lists these additions without identifying their characters, so there is no confirmed role breakdown to attach to this batch.

Shaft’s production team comes into focus

Kana Shundou, whose credits include Apocalypse Hotel, is directing the adaptation at Shaft. Nobuhiro Sugiyama, credited on 3-gatsu no Lion, handles character designs and also serves as a chief animation director. Yuuki Hayashi, whose work includes Medalist, is composing the score, while CyberAgent is credited as executive producer.

The expanded staff announcement puts Kouji Matsumura in the assistant director position and Katsuhiko Takayama in charge of series composition and scripts. Kazuya Shiotsuki and Akihisa Takano are also named as chief animation directors, with Yoshiaki Itou as main animator.

On the visual side, the credits include Junichi Taniguchi for art board, Morihito Oohara for art design, Yukako Ogawa of KLAS as art director and Yasuko Watanabe for colour design. Rei Egami handles photography, Rie Matsubara editing and Kouhei Yoshida sound direction.

That gives the project a substantially clearer production picture than a release-year announcement alone.

The manga is already complete

Yoshimura’s original manga began on Gangan Online in May 2018. Square Enix published its tenth and final collected volume in December 2022.

Comikey and Square Enix licensed the manga in English in September 2023. According to MyAnimeList’s report, Square Enix released the final two English volumes on May 19.

That completed source run is useful context, but it does not establish how much material the television anime will cover. The announcement does not specify an episode count or adaptation endpoint.

Why it belongs on a Malaysia/SEA watchlist

Our take: For readers in Malaysia and Southeast Asia deciding which upcoming adaptations deserve a closer look, the useful development here is the combination of a first promo, a fuller creative team and an ending-theme preview. Those offer more to assess than a title and a distant release window, although they are not a guarantee of the finished show’s quality.

The completed manga also provides a possible starting point for readers who prefer checking out the original work before an adaptation. However, the English licensing information should not be mistaken for confirmation of access through any particular Malaysian or SEA service.

For now, keep the distinction simple: the anime is confirmed for 2027; regional streaming arrangements are not provided in this report. There is enough here to start paying attention, without pretending the viewing details are settled.
