Netflix is giving One Piece fans a very Usopp-flavoured recap before the next big live-action arc arrives.
The streamer has released the official trailer for its upcoming Lego One Piece two-part animated special, and the whole thing is built around one of the Straw Hats’ most reliable talents: making the story sound way more ridiculous than it probably was.
Instead of doing a straight retelling, the special frames the events as Usopp narrating the Straw Hat Pirates’ adventures to Chopper. Naturally, that means the story is being filtered through Usopp’s dramatic, very flexible relationship with the truth. For a franchise that already balances huge emotional arcs with absolute clownery, that actually sounds like a smart fit.
The special will cover the first two seasons of Netflix’s live-action One Piece series, but with a Lego animated twist. So yes, expect the same broad journey, but presented in a more playful, exaggerated form rather than just a beat-for-beat recap.
Who’s involved?
Jacob Romero Gibson is listed as Usopp, while Charithra Chandran appears as Miss Wednesday / Nefertari Vivi.
On the production side, Atomic Cartoons is making the special in collaboration with Shueisha and The Lego Group. Tom Hyndman is serving as showrunner, writer, and executive producer, with Chelsea Ker directing. Takuma Naito and Taro Goto are producers.
One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda is also credited as an executive producer. He is joined by Lego’s Jill Wilfert, Keith Malone, and Lars Danielsen, plus Tomorrow Studios’ Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements.
The two-part special premieres on Netflix on September 29.
Where this fits in Netflix’s One Piece timeline
Netflix’s live-action One Piece first launched in August 2023. Its second season, One Piece: Into the Grand Line, debuted on March 10. According to the source, the first two episodes of that season also screened in more than 200 theaters across Canada, the United States, and Japan on the same day.
The live-action series is already moving further ahead too. Season three is planned for 2027 and will be titled One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta.
