Romance anime fans, add this one to your Summer 2026 watchlist. The TV anime adaptation of Nanigashi Shima and raemz’s novel Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky has confirmed its July 6 Japan premiere through a second full promotional video.
The new trailer also gives fans a first listen to the ending theme, “Hikari” — meaning Light — performed by Yui Sakurai, a member of idol group FRUITS ZIPPER. That song choice fits the series pretty nicely, considering the whole story is built around two people slowly finding light in each other’s lives.
Another strong name on the production side: Harumi Fuuki is composing the music. If that name rings a bell, she previously worked on films like Lonely Castle in the Mirror and The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes, plus both seasons of Forest of Piano. Basically, if this adaptation wants to lean into soft emotional damage, the soundtrack side is in capable hands.
In Japan, the anime premieres on AT-X on July 6 at 9:00pm JST, which is 8:00pm Malaysia time. A “barrier-free” audio description version for blind and visually impaired viewers will air later at 4:00am JST on July 7 — that’s 3:00am MYT. It will also air on Tokyo MX at 10:00pm JST and MBS at 2:45am JST on July 7.
For Malaysian and SEA anime fans, the accessibility angle is honestly worth noting. Anime releases often talk big about emotional themes, but offering an audio description version directly connects with the story’s own focus on a blind heroine. Hopefully, if this gets picked up for regional streaming, those accessibility options don’t get left behind.
The story follows Kakeru Sorano, a shy university freshman who keeps people at arm’s length. After being pulled into a welcome party by his dormmate, he meets Koharu Fuyutsuki, a cheerful blind girl who talks openly about her dreams. Their relationship begins to change after Kakeru helps return her white cane, and the distance between them slowly closes. One of the key emotional beats comes when Koharu says she wants to see fireworks — a simple wish that hits Kakeru harder than expected.
The main cast includes Miyu Irino as Kakeru, Saori Hayami as Koharu, Konomi Kohara as Yūko Hayase, and Yōhei Azakami as Ushio Narumi. The anime is directed by Joe Yoshizaki at MAKARIA, with Yūko Kakihara handling series scripts. Character designs are by Yoshihiro Sawada and Yūzuki Ishii.
The original novel launched in August 2023 with illustrations by raemz, and Yen Press released the English edition in January 2025. The title has already built a solid reputation: it ranked third overall in Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! 2024 and won the grand prize at the 15th GA Bunko Prize. It has also expanded into a sequel novel, a manga adaptation on Square Enix’s Manga UP! platform, and even a live-action series that premiered in December.
No SEA streaming platform was mentioned in the announcement, so Malaysian fans should keep an eye on the usual simulcast updates closer to July. But if you like quiet, emotionally driven romance anime with a bit of literary polish, this one memang worth watching.
