Crunchyroll has started streaming the English dub for the TV anime adaptation of Marriage Toxin, the action-romance series based on the manga by Jōmyaku and artist Mizuki Yoda.
The dub began streaming on Tuesday, with Ethan Gallardo, Brittney Karbowski and more featured in the English voice cast. For Malaysian and SEA fans who prefer watching anime while multitasking, gaming, commuting, or just chilling after work without reading subtitles, this is a nice quality-of-life update.
What is Marriage Toxin about?
Marriage Toxin follows Hikaru Gero, an elite assassin from the Gero family. His life gets messy when the family head decides that Hikaru's sister must produce an heir to continue the bloodline, even if force is involved. Hikaru, not exactly the type to sit quietly and let that happen, decides he needs another solution.
That solution? Marriage.
During one of his jobs, Hikaru crosses paths with Mei Kinosaki, a sharp marriage swindler who becomes tied to his latest mission. Hikaru realises that if he can find a bride, he may be able to protect his sister and solve the family succession problem at the same time. So he asks Mei to help him find a wife.
It is a ridiculous setup, but that is the hook: an assassin teaming up with a professional romance scammer to tackle love like it is a life-or-death mission. Very anime, very chaotic, and honestly the kind of premise that can either be cringe or gila fun depending on execution.
When and where is it airing?
The anime first premiered on April 7. In Japan, it airs every Tuesday on Kansai TV and Fuji TV's new Tuesday night programming block, Ka-Anival!! Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs, which makes it easy for fans in Malaysia and across SEA to keep up legally without hunting around random sites.
For local anime fans, the English dub release also makes the show more accessible. Not everyone watches every simulcast subbed, especially when the weekly anime schedule is already packed. Having both options helps Marriage Toxin reach the casual Crunchyroll crowd, not just manga readers and seasonal anime grinders.
Who is making the anime?
The anime is directed by Motonobu Hori, known for Carole & Tuesday, at Bones Film, with production supervision by BONES. Kimiko Ueno, who worked on Astro Note, handles the script and series composition.
Music is by Taisei Iwasaki of BELLE and Yuma Yamaguchi of Metallic Rouge. Kōhei Tokuoka, linked to The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity, serves as both character designer and chief animation director.
On the music side, actress and singer Yurina Hirate performs the opening theme Kill or Kiss, while singer-songwriter AKASAKI handles the ending theme Shake Na Baby.
Manga background
Jōmyaku and Mizuki Yoda launched the Marriage Toxin manga on Shonen Jump+ in April 2022. Shueisha published the 17th compiled volume on April 3. The manga is licensed by Viz Media and is also available in English through Shueisha's MANGA Plus app.
If the anime keeps leaning into the assassin-plus-romance-scammer dynamic, this could be one of those shows that sneaks into the weekly watchlist. Not necessarily the loudest title of the season, but the concept is weird enough to stand out.
