Another school rom-com is making the jump from manga shelves to TV screens, and this one has a pretty fun hook.
Naruki’s Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun — also known in English as Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent — has officially been announced for a television anime adaptation. The news came through the launch of an official website for the anime, which also shared a celebratory illustration drawn by Naruki.
For readers who have not been following the manga, Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun is a romance comedy published in Bessatsu Friend, a Kodansha magazine known for shoujo and romance titles. Naruki started the series in January 2021, so this anime announcement comes after several years of building a proper manga following.
Kodansha released the manga’s 10th volume in December 2025, and the 11th volume is scheduled for May 13. That means the anime is not adapting some brand-new one-shot with no material behind it — there is already a decent amount of story for the production team to work with.
Why SEA anime fans should keep an eye on it
Romance comedy anime has always done well with SEA audiences, especially when the setup is easy to understand but the characters have enough personality to carry the drama. Malaysian anime fans are already used to seasonal rom-com staples becoming Discord watch-party material, TikTok edit fuel, and low-key comfort shows after work or class.
The title alone gives a good idea of the appeal: glasses, school romance, and a delinquent twist. That kind of contrast is basically classic rom-com fuel. If the anime captures the manga’s character chemistry properly, this could land nicely with viewers who enjoy lighter shoujo-style romance instead of heavy fantasy or action every season.
It also helps that manga-to-anime adaptations like this usually introduce the source material to a much bigger international crowd. For Malaysian fans, that means more people talking about it online, more fan translations or official availability discussions, and potentially more demand for the manga if the anime takes off.
Still early days
At the moment, the announcement is still very fresh. Based on the details revealed so far, there are no confirmed broadcast date, studio, cast, or staff details included yet. So for now, this is one to put on the radar rather than start planning the watch schedule immediately.
Still, the official website opening is a solid first step. Anime announcements normally roll out in waves — first the adaptation confirmation, then visuals, staff, cast, trailer, theme songs, and finally the airing window. If you are the type who likes tracking romance anime before they blow up, this is the stage where you bookmark the title.
The egg.network take
Not every manga adaptation needs to be a massive action blockbuster to matter. Sometimes the best seasonal surprises are the smaller rom-coms that come in quietly, deliver charming character dynamics, and suddenly everyone is posting clips by episode three.
Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun has that kind of potential if the anime gets the tone right. The manga has been running since 2021, has multiple volumes already out, and now has the backing of an official TV anime push. For Malaysian and SEA anime fans who enjoy school romance with a cheeky twist, this is worth watching.
