My Hero Academia fans, looks like we are getting one more proper goodbye.
After wrapping its main anime run with Season 8 and then dropping a post-finale special earlier this year, the franchise has now locked in another new anime short. The upcoming episode is titled My Hero Academia “I am a hero too” and will release in Japan on August 3.
This is not a random recap or anniversary fluff either. The short is adapting the extra manga material created by original author Kohei Horikoshi for the My Hero Academia Ultra Age fan book. That material reportedly runs for five pages, so expect something short, focused, and very much aimed at fans who want one final emotional button after the ending.
What is “I am a hero too” about?
The new short takes place after the recent Episode 170+1 special, “More”, continuing the post-war timeline set around eight years after the battle against All For One and Tomura Shigaraki.
The big pull here is that it gives fans another look at Deku’s future as a pro hero, while also checking in on Eri, now older and moving toward her own dreams. For long-time viewers, that Eri angle is the one that might hit hardest. Her story has always been one of the emotional anchors of My Hero Academia, so seeing her as a teenager looking forward instead of being trapped by the past is exactly the kind of closure this series does well.
Will Malaysia and SEA fans get it on the same day?
That part is still the main question. The short is expected to stream on various platforms around its Japanese release, but international streaming details have not been confirmed yet.
For Malaysian fans, the practical thing is to watch Crunchyroll closely, since that is usually the most relevant legal anime platform for us in SEA. ComicBook also mentions Hulu for My Hero Academia, but Hulu is not exactly a normal option for Malaysian viewers, so Crunchyroll will likely be the one most local fans care about.
There will also be an early world premiere at Anime Expo 2026 in July for selected fans. That means spoilers may start floating around before the August 3 Japan release, so kalau you are the type who wants to go in clean, maybe mute a few keywords once Anime Expo starts.
Why this matters after the finale
My Hero Academia is technically done, but this franchise is still celebrating its 10th anniversary, and it clearly still has gas left in the tank. These epilogue shorts are interesting because they let the anime explore the “what happens after saving the world?” part without needing to restart the whole story.
Honestly, the adult Deku timeline feels very expandable. A movie set after the ending could work gila well if handled properly, especially if it focuses on how hero society changes after everything that happened. But for now, that is still just the obvious dream scenario, not an announced project.
There is also the My Hero Academia: Vigilantes side of the franchise. Its second season wrapped earlier this year with signs pointing toward more story, so fans are still waiting to see whether a third season gets confirmed.
For now, “I am a hero too” is the next official anime release to watch. It may be small, but for anyone who grew up with Deku, Bakugo, Todoroki, Eri, and Class 1-A, this sounds like the kind of final extra scene that will make the ending feel a little more complete.
